Acoustic Guide BILAL ABBAS
Sound? What is sound? Sound is basically a wave that is caused by vibrations. These vibrations that are caused then set off particles in the air which transport energy through air and thus form waves. Whenever we are able to hear sound, particles are travelling and carrying energy through sound pressure longitudinal waves.
Sound waves Compression happens when molecules are forced, or pressed, together at a high pressure. Rarefaction is just the opposite, it occurs when molecules are given extra space and allowed to expand.
Frequency is the property of sound that determines pitch. Frequenxy is measured by the amount of wave cycles per second and this is a measurement of Hertz. The greater the amount of frequency, the higher the pitch.
Speed of sound The speed of sound is 331. 2 metres per second above sea level. Factors that may affect the speed of sound is the temperature, air and pressure. Sound travels a lot more faster through liquids than it does through air particles. This is due to the fact that liquids particles are a lot more closer together thus it is a lot easier to send vibrations along to other particles as they are closer together.
