3 ABOUT TIER 5 GAE • The government authorised exchange category was set up in 2008 for people coming to the UK through approved schemes that aim to share knowledge, experience and best practice, and to experience the social and cultural life of the UK. • Access Tier 5 is a Government Authorised Exchange (GAE) programme designed specifically to allow graduates & postgraduates from countries outside the EEA to gain experience working in the UK for a minimum of 4 weeks and maximum of 12 -24 months. It gives UK employers an opportunity to hire the best and the brightest talent from overseas on key initiatives to learn key skill. • In contrast to Tier 2, which requires the employer to directly sponsor migrant workers, Tier 5 does not permit employers to sponsor migrants; instead the sponsor has to be an overarching body. This is where we, AIESEC UK play a vital role as we have been granted a Tier 5 license to issue Certificates of Sponsorship and are registered as an overarching body to manage this programme on behalf of UK Home Office.
