Overview • Facility breakdown structure (FBS, ESS side) • “Product breakdown structure” (PBS by ESS/IKpartner) • . . . leads to: Physical installed structure • Next steps F. Schlander, Annual Review, 20 April 2016 2
Facility Breakdown Structure • “Is a breakdown of the facility into systems and subsystems that uniquely identifies the function and its requirements in the ESS facility. ” E. Tanke, ESS-0008904 R 7 F. Schlander, Annual Review, 20 April 2016 3

Facility Breakdown Structure • Example: elliptical cryomodules (high beta linac) ESS Facility ACCelerator HBL High Beta Linac EMR Cryomodule F. Schlander, Annual Review, 20 April 2016 5
Product Breakdown Structure • The FBS level 4 ‘leaf’ will be the starting point for the PBS given by the in-kind partner. • The PBS from partner is similar to the EBOM (engineering bill of material) at ESS, but also includes non-deliverables such as tooling. • The PBS from partner may require adaptations (e. g. a translator) from ESS side to allow proper connection to the FBS-leaf. F. Schlander, Annual Review, 20 April 2016 6
Example: PBS IK-contribution: Elliptical cryomodules from CEA Saclay: 6 levels, separated by dots and from 1 to 9 then from A to Z L 4(ESS): L 1(CEA) = type of cryomodule ‘ 1’ and ‘ 2’: M-/H-ECCTD (prototypes) ‘ 3’: medium beta series ‘ 4’: high beta series L 2(CEA) = components L 3 -6(CEA) = subcomponents F. Schlander, Annual Review, 20 April 2016 7

Physical installed structure • This will contain the individual information of each component, i. e. : – – – Serial numbers Performance information from testing Calibration curves (possible) non-conformities … F. Schlander, Annual Review, 20 April 2016 9
Now / Next Six Months • The transfer process from the IKCs to ESS has to be established by setting up the required frontends and structures (input from both sides needed): • Product breakdown from IKC has to be implemented at ESS • IKC use various design software – converters may have to be implemented F. Schlander, Annual Review, 20 April 2016 10
Summary • The high levels of the facility breakdown structure for the accelerator are in place • To be started: • bring the FBS and the other required structures to life by providing the required substructures and insertion of drawings/travelers/data sheets/etc. from/by IKCs • Communication between IKCs and ESS accelerator division and Engineering & Integration support ongoing F. Schlander, Annual Review, 20 April 2016 11

FBS Plan for ACC FBS (If any WP have urgent needs of implementation, it can be fast tracked) Objective Activity Resources Time schedule Requirement • Collect input about plans, needs, partner, resources, expectation, timeline, current process etc. from WP leaders FH, FS, (JM optional) April Analysis • Compare input to current suggested model and identify eventual gaps FH, FS, JM May 1 -15 Decision and Communication • • Discuss and decide on solution Inform WP leaders about solution (which in turn inform partners) FH, FS, JM, HD, ? May 15 -30 Solution • Develop solution (close eventual gaps) and guideline (can be adjustment of existing model) JM June Implementation • Start implementation with the most urgent WP (FBS/PBS and transfer) WP rep and Partner with support from FH, FS and JM or rep.
