After Colloquium, what’s next? 3 things! 1. One Honors Non-Western course • • • Any level 2000+ as long as it is in honors AND listed as a non-western May take in any order with upper division electives and major requirements - summer classes and J-term classes are great options - for some transfer students, this requirement is waived To find a Honors Non-Western Classes offered this semester - go to Register for Classes or Browse Classes, click “Advanced Search” and in the “Attribute” drop down criteria box type “Honors Non-Western” 2. Two Honors courses at the 3000 or 4000 -level • • Degree evaluations lists requirements as “Modes of Understanding” and “Senior Seminar” which is no longer a distinction. Complete any 2 honors courses at the 3000 or 4000 level May take in any order with upper division electives and major requirements - summer classes and J-term classes are great options 3. Honors Capstone Project Funding Does the Honors College have funding to support my research or creative work? • Yes! Dean Parolin manages a scholarship fund to help offset research costs associated with the Honors Capstone. Please consider applying for a grant. Priority will be given to students who don't have other sources of funding. • The grant application link is below. Read the directions carefully. You will complete the top half, and your faculty mentor will complete the bottom and then submit to the Honors College. • https: //form. jotform. com/90146050358149 • Honors Grant (up to $3, 000 of support for capstone project work) at the Group Advising Sessions in March. Independent Study Credit HP 4976 Ø You will have your own specific section of the independent study for which you will register Ø To request a section, email honors@uwyo. edu a nd include the following: • The name of your • • instructor and written approval from them (usually your faculty mentor for the honors capstone project); you need to identify this person Your W# and Name The number of credit hours you and your faculty mentor have agreed upon (1 -3) ØFull course description for HP 4976: Independent Study DOES NOT COUNT TOWARDS THE HONORS UPPER DIVISION ELECTIVES Instructor: Student must identify faculty mentor and receive approval from faculty mentor and Honors Why might you take an Honors independent study? Register for one if you need additional upper division elective hours to graduate, if you need additional hours to be a fulltime student in any given semester, if you feel you need the structure to help you complete your capstone project, or if you have been working with an instructor on a particularly interesting area for which there is no designated course. You can take up to 3 credit hours of an Honors independent study per semester for up to a total of 6 hours overall. You don’t need to sign up for an independent study to complete the capstone project. Please note that these hours do not meet any specific requirements towards your degree or your Honors minor. They do not count towards the required Honors upper division electives.
