Abu Bakr Goes to the Marketplace ‘Umar and Abu ‘Ubaydah said to him, “Where are you going, O Khaleefah of the Messenger of Allah? ” Abu Bakr replied, “The marketplace. ” They said, “To do what? You have been put in charge over the affairs of the Muslims. ” Abu Bakr said, “Then how will I feed my family? ” They said, “Come with us, and we will allot for you a stipend. ” © Umm Ibraheem, A Happy Homeschool

Abu Bakr Milks Goats Before he became khaleefah, Abu Bakr would milk the goats of the women who lived in As-Sunh. After the people pledged allegiance to him in the masjid, a girl said, “From now on, he will never again milk our goats for us. ” Abu Bakr said, “I will indeed milk them for you. And I certainly hope that my new job will not change me. ” True to his word, Abu Bakr milked their goats for the 6 months he was in As-Sunh. Appointing Governors Some of the Sahabah were sent to new Muslim lands. They had a big job of educating the people about Islam. Whomever the Prophet (S) had appointed as governor’s during his life, Abu Bakr kept them as governors as well.
