Impactful data – Who? What?
Impactful data – Purpose & Types Purpose Types • Workflow • Policies • Collection Development • What else?
Impactful data – Keep in mind • Consistency • in-house • with others (e. g. group comparison of fill rate) • Timing of data analysis – moment in time, trend • Data sources, informative notes • What data is needed for what type of decisions? How much data? • What is “Good enough”
Barriers?

Filled (or Not) Requests • Other uses - Filled? • Other uses – Not Filled?
Qualitative - Please briefly describe the value our services provide to you • You save me money, time, and general frustration. • I don't often need Libraries resources for my work, but when I do, the Libraries' services are outstanding! It's a pleasure to work with such a world-class institution. • I would not be able to study what I do without resources from other institutions as well as with the time-saving options such as pulling books for me to pick up at a circulation desk. • The speed and convenience of getting research materials makes other parts of my job more efficient. • Since I work with 30 -40 scientist at a time this service allows me to service them all better and more efficiently.
Some ideas ~ “do we need to be that fast? ” 15% of patrons responded on a values Survey. 45% of responses to how ILL Borr Copies Value copies spoke to appreciation Filled For speed. Up to 2 Hrs I was working on a grant deadline and appreciated receiving my articles fast. Up to 4 Hrs Up to 8 Hrs Up to 16 Hrs FY 18 running % 13% 18% 24% 33%
Catch-all slide (if time) • Time of day + requests “with errors” = when is our chat help available? • Raising library funds – donors – students – what data? (numbers, value impacts, trends) • “Problem” requests – connecting patrons to the help they could use? • Power of genuine and specific appreciation - #s, words • Other points of data we already have? • Other points of data we don’t have but should?
Summarizing 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Who, what purpose Gather some data, drill down where needed Ask your patrons Gather additional information from your patrons Gather & how best to present (know your audience – back to finding out what they want) 6. Speak in terms they will best understand

Who do you report resource sharing data to? How do you use that data (if you do)? How do you get your data? Do we need consistency in some of our reports?
