LET’S LOOK AT YOUR WORKSHEETS… Locational Relationships and Adding Movement to Pronominal Classifiers: Pronominal classifiers can be used to show _____________ relationships such as “on”, “under”, “behind”, “in front of”, “beside”, “facing each other”, “on top of”, etc. The action of persons or objects can be ________ by adding movement to the classifiers. Step 1. Practice sentences 1 -10 on your own and underline any signs you do not know. Step 2. What signs do we need to review? Step 3. Now lets sign the sentences together. Step 4. Now lets sign them with partners. Move around the room. Sign a sentence to a person… the person responds with the number that corresponds to that sentence.
ON YOUR OWN… There are 41 signs in this chapter. Create 10 sentences on your own that incorporate at least 20 of the signs from this chapter and use grammar structures from this chapter. Gloss the sentence first underlining the vocabulary used from this chapter, on the next line write out the grammar structure used. Add all glossing marks and double space. For example: I SEE CAR CL: 3 -NEXT-TO-CL: 3 BURN. (Using classifiers to indicate locational relationship of the objects. ) You will be signing and translating these ten sentences in class. Be sure to use only vocabulary we know—do not use www. aslpro. com to look up new signs. Rely on your master vocabulary list only! Make sure you know how to sign each sentence on the due date.
SIGN TWO TO THREE SENTENCES IN WHICH YOU USE ONE OF THE CLASSIFIERS TO SHOW ACTION. GLOSS: • Translate the above brief story with a partner: •
PARTNER PRACTICE… Step 1: Read the paragraph below. Write 5 questions about the paragraph then SIGN the paragraph to your partner. When you are finished, ask your partner the five questions in ASL. Your partner should answer in ASL on their own paper. Step 2: Switch roles and repeat… • TOMORROW I FLY-TO-N. Y. (right). MY GIRLFRIEND LIVE THERE. I STAY ONE-WEEK, VISIT FINISH, R-E-N-T CAR DRIVE-TO WASHINGTON D. C. (left) (from N. Y. ). I TAKE-UP CLASS SIGN LANGUAGE ONE-WEEK AND MAYBE TAKE-UP CLASS DRAWING. CLASS FINISH, FLY-TO-HERE HOME. I CRY……FINISH, DRIVE-TO-HER-HOUSE FINISH, I WALK-TO-HERE HOME.
MORE PRACTICE: Use your classifiers to show that something is ______ something else. Be specific as to what that something is. Sign and translate with your partner. Example: ON TABLE, BOOK CL: B (on). BEHIND NEXT ON TOP OF IN FRONT OF AT RIGHT ANGLES TO GLOSS: 1. 2. 3. Continue… FACING SLIGHTLY OVERLAPPING UNDER FAR AWAY FROM FACING AWAY FROM
VIDEO ASSESSMENT! Choose two (2) sentence from the practice set… Record yourself signing these two sentences, upload to You. Tube and email the link to me. Your FIRST AND LAST NAME must be in the MEMO along with the chapter. Do it like this: Ben Baker ABC. 12 While signing the sentences you SHOULD TALK and EXPLAIN what you are doing and WHY. See sample:
HIGH FIVE! Time to review vocabulary. Find a partner and make sure you each have a different colored pencil or hilighter. Come up and get your paper… one per group.
