Approach l STEM professionals assist K-12 STEM teachers in classroom l Volunteers commit to attending school throughout the school year l A few hours, one day per week, if retired l A few hours, every 2 -3 weeks, if still working l Activities developed jointly with teacher

History l Started in 2004 in Montgomery County, 8 volunteers l In the 2014 -15 school year, there are 165 volunteers in Maryland (Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties), Virginia (Fairfax, Arlington, Prince William and Loudoun Counties, the City of Falls Church), and the District of Columbia.

Examples of Assistance l Interacting with students on investigations and problem sheets l Complementing teachers’ presentations l Serving as a resource for teachers and students l Generating new experiments and material l Relating the classroom learning to the outside world
