Four categories of members - Institutional members: conservatories and other schools or institutions which have pedagogical instruction as the primary activity. - Individual members: teachers and musicians exercising a significant pedagogical activity. - Ensemble members: professional ensembles with 2 -5 members with a legal identity exercising a significant pedagogical activity. - Contributing members: individuals, institutions, or other structures wishing to support the association without voting rights.
Membership • In 2009: 44 members 27 institutional members and 17 individual members • In 2013: 95 members 39 institutional members, 49 individual members, 3 ensemble members, 3 contributing members, one free member (webmaster Matti Kettunen)
History of the Association • In 2001 -2004 teachers of six European music institutes worked under a Socrates Program Project: Chamber Music Curriculum Profile. The original Partner Institutes were Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff, Debrecen University, Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences/ Music Department, Estonian Music Academy, Hochschule für Musik, “Franz Liszt”, Weimar and Universität für Music und Darstellende Kunst, Wien. • Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences/ Music Department and its partner schools organized a Pedagogic Chamber Music Conference in cooperation with the AEC and its ERASMUS Thematic Network for Music Polifonia May 4 -6 th. There were practical workshops lead by professors from several European Music Academies, Pedagogic Chamber Music Material was presented and important issues on Chamber Music education were touched in several panel discussions. The main event of the Conference was the forming of the ECMTA.
Objectives of the Association • § 2 The mission of the Association shall be the non-profit promotion of chamber music activity and education in Europe. For this purpose, the Association shall organize activities related to chamber music, for example, courses, educational events and conferences, as well as editing pedagogical materials and cooperating with music institutes and actors of the music industry, whenever possible. The Association shall make proposals and initiatives to enhance the position of chamber music activity.

Concerts • Three student concerts at each meeting. • Thanks to the warm welcome of host institutions, as well as the policy of alignment of ECMTA meetings with already existing student festivals, student concerts and masterclasses have been organized with participating student ensembles from Tallinn, Vilnius, Riga, Rostock, Amsterdam, Warsaw, Mannheim, Nicosia, Moscow, Rome, Gdansk, and, in Kazan, 21 Russian music schools. • ECMTA Professors performed together at the Ascoli Piceno Autumn Gathering. The meeting in also Mannheim featured teachers performing with current and former students, and the Autumn Gathering in Kazan featured a gala concert with distinguished Russian professors and guest artists.
