A Vision of Jesus Christ Revelation 1: 9 -20

I, John, your brother & fellow partaker in the tribulation & kingdom & perseverance which are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God & the testimony of Jesus. 10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, & I heard behind me a loud voice like the sound of a trumpet, 11 saying, "Write in a book what you see, & send it to the 7 churches: to Ephesus & to Smyrna & to Pergamum & to Thyatira & to Sardis & to Philadelphia & to Laodicea. " REVELATION 1: 9 -20

REV 1: 12 -16 - Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me. & having turned I saw 7 golden lampstands; 13 & in the middle of the lampstands I saw one like a son of man, clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, & girded across His chest with a golden sash. 14 His head & His hair were white like white wool, like snow; & His eyes were like a flame of fire. 15 His feet were like burnished bronze, when it has been made to glow in a furnace, & His voice was like the sound of many waters. 16 In His right hand He held 7 stars, & out of His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword; & His face was like the sun shining in its strength.

Rev. 1: 17 -20 - When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. & He placed His right hand on me, saying, "Do not be afraid; I am the first & the last, 18 & the living One; & I was dead, & behold, I am alive forevermore, & I have the keys of death & of Hades. 19 Therefore write things which you have seen, & the things which are, & the things which will take place after these things. 20 As for the mystery of the 7 stars which you saw in My right hand, & the 7 golden lampstands: the 7 stars are the angels of the 7 churches, & the 7 lampstands are the 7 churches.

John’s Vision • “I was in the spirit on the Lord’s Day…” • “I heard behind me a loud voice like the sound of a trumpet. ”

“His head & His hair were white like white wool, like snow; 1: 14 He’s trying to describe the indescribable!

“His eyes were like a flame of fire” 1: 14 “His feet were like burnished bronze, when it has been made to glow in a furnace, ” - 1: 15

v. 16 “In His right hand He held 7 stars, ” Jews & Numbers 1 – Unity (only one) 2 – Strength 3 – Deity 4 – Cosmic #, world 5 – Man 7 – Divine perfection 31/2 - Imperfect 6 – Evil 10 – Complete, fullness 12 – religious completeness multiples - intensification

v. 16 “In His right hand He held 7 stars, ” 7 angels of the 7 churches

v. 16 - “Out of His mouth came a sharp twoedged sword; ” “… & His face was like the sun shining in its strength.

1: 17 “When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. ”

He placed His right hand on me, saying, "Do not be afraid; I am the first & the last, 18 & the living One; & I was dead, & behold, I am alive forevermore, & I have the keys of death & of Hades. ”

This vision was meant to call John & the church to their tasks! • They would be confronted with choosing • The Roman Empire • Or the Kingdom of God! • God or Country? !

King Jesus reigns forever! “I am alive forevermore, & I have the keys of death & of Hades. ” Rev. 1: 18

This Vision is a sign of… Security Hope & a call to Discipleship

This Vision is a Reminder of… Who Jesus is. Whose we are! & to whom we will give an account!

This is “. . . what the Spirit says to the churches. . . ” Rev. 2: 1 - 3: 22 Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near. – 1: 3
