A traditional Welsh legend
Many, many years ago in North Wales there was a king who was trying to build a fort on a hill. The fort was to be built in a place called Dinas Emrys. But every time the King's men built the fortress walls they came tumbling back down again!
The King could not understand why this was happening. He asked a wise man help him. The wise man said that they needed to sprinkle the blood of a boy on the hill and this would stop the fort from collapsing and falling down!
The King sent out his soldiers to find a boy. They returned with a young boy from South Wales. His name was Myrddin Emrys. Myrddin told the King that the wise man was wrong. His blood would not stop the fort from falling down.
Myrddin explained that there was a cave under the hill fort where two dragons, one red and one white, were fighting each other!
The King listened to what Myrddin said. He sent his soldiers to dig under the hill fort.
Myrddin was right! The King's soldiers found the two dragons and brought them up to the top of the land. As the two dragons battled above ground, the King and his men built their fort.
Finally, the red dragon beat the white dragon. Some people believe that this is why there is a red dragon on the Welsh flag.
Task – we would like you to use the Animate tool in JIT 5 to create an animation of The Legend of Dinas Emrys. You could also do a voice over to re-tell the story.
