How long have human-like forms been around? Remember the earth is about 4. 6 billion years old! About 2 million years ago human forms began living as hunters and gatherers in what is known as the Paleolithic Age. From 2 million to 10, 000 b. c. e, humans moved around. There were no permanent settlement.

Characteristics of Paleolithic Society Took place from about 2 million years ago to about 10, 000 B. C. E ■ Nomadic (moved in search of water, food, and shelter) ■ Hunters and Gatherers (people or societies in which most or all food is obtained from wild plants and animals, not farming or raising animals) ■ Invented the first tools and simple weapons ■ Discovered how to use fire ■ Lived in clans (groups of people who live together) ■ Oral language ■ Created cave art
