Tau Grant Overview • For smaller nonprofits with an operating budget of $2 million or less • Range up to $10, 000 • Two grant cycles annually • First cycle FY 19 (deadline to apply August 9, 2018 at 12 pm (noon) • Support Capacity Building for organizations, programs, or initiatives • Impact at least one social determinant of health
Eligibility • Be a 501 (c)(3). • Serve residents of Hillsborough, Pinellas, Martin, St. Lucie, Palm Beach or Miami-Dade counties. • Be in “good standing” with Allegany Franciscan Ministries. • Be willing to comply with all requirements of the Allegany Franciscan Ministries Grant Agreement.
Limitations • Organizations with an operating budget of $2 million and over are not eligible for Tau Grants. • Organizations are discouraged from applying for a Tau Grant within one year of receiving a prior Tau Grant. • Not available for individuals, public agencies, capital projects (buildings, van/automobiles, etc. ) fundraising events, or endowments. • An organization may not have more than one active Tau Grant in each Allegany Franciscan Ministries region and only one application may be submitted for an organization per cycle. • Requests may include personnel costs but may not be used entirely for salary. • Not intended to provide ongoing, sustaining funding for a project or an organization and will not necessarily be renewed annually.
Capacity Building is defined as intentional, missiondriven efforts aimed at strengthening the operations, management, programs and governance of nonprofits to improve their performance and impact.
Capacity Building Examples • • Strategic Planning/Succession Planning Fund development strategy Board Development/Staff Development One time purchase of technology upgrades and/or training on new technology • Website redesign/Marketing and Communications • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Planning • Professional Association Membership Fees
Social Determinants of Health Social determinants of health are social, economic, and physical conditions that influence a person’s overall health status, such as availability of safe housing, access to healthy food, quality of education and job training, transportation options, and access to health care. Addressing social determinants of health is important for improving health and reducing longstanding disparities in health and health care.
Social Determinants of Health Allegany Franciscan Ministries’ framework for understanding the social determinants of health includes five general categories: education, economic stability, social & community context, health & health care, and neighborhood & built environment. For the first cycle of FY 19 Tau Grants, the three social determinants of health that will be addressed are: ü education, ü economic stability, and ü health & healthcare.
