The candidate presents a personal submission where research and development is presented in the form of a sketchbook. The submission results in a series of photographic outcomes in response to the externally set stimulus: public art where the candidate presents local buildings/structures as artwork. AO 1: a sophisticated and thorough development of ideas is presented by the candidate. The submission is in-depth and generally sustained. Relevant artists and photographers are explored which informs creative making (Berenice Abbott and Henry Chalfant, for example) and written analysis and commentary is perceptive and generally applied with rigor. A more consistent approach to this might have enabled the candidate to make greater connections between research and outcomes. AO 2: a confident and rigorous exploration of materials is seen within the submission. The candidate exploits both handmade and traditional approaches to the discipline to realise their intentions. A high level of skill is evident within creative making, however greater opportunities for review and refinement to take place might have enabled outcomes to fully exploit their creative potential. AO 3: the candidate presents a sophisticated ability to record observations and experiences which are relevant to the investigation. Critical reflections start to become perceptive and informs the making process. AO 4: outcomes are imaginative with intentions realised in a perceptive and coherent way. The candidate might have missed opportunities to exploit the creative potential of earlier lines of enquiry which might have produced more sophisticated responses.
