A LEADING PLAYER IN RE-REFINING OF WASTE LUBE OIL AND IN THE COLLECTION OF SPECIAL WASTE Techitaly 2016 Brussels, November 29 th -30 th
The Company Established in 1963, Viscolube is one of the few European companies specialized in waste oil re-refining. Viscolube produces a lubricating base oil whose properties are better than those of the virgin base oils currently on the market. Present in Italy with two production facilities, Viscolube has the capacity to treat more than 190, 000 t/y of waste oil, thus producing more than 110, 000 t/y of re-refined base oil and 20. 000 t/y of bitumen. Leveraging on the expertise in the waste lubricant oil re-refining business, Viscolube started in 2013 a value chain integration strategy, acquiring several waste collection companies, mainly focused on hazardous waste collection and creating Viscoambiente division. Up to date the division manages 130. 000 t/y of collected industrial waste and 10. 000 t/y of waste commercial brokerage. VISCOLUBE is an international player in waste lube oil re-refining and special waste collection business with outstanding characteristics in terms of : üProcess and technological development üPlant operation and high quality lube production üSpecial waste collection and treatment 2
The Mission Leveraging on its process & technological leadership, as well as on its know-how on the whole value chain of the used oil, Viscolube intends: • expand abroad its industrial presence as more countries seek to access this technology to provide an environmentally sustainable solution for the treatment of waste oil; • Integrate the value chain of special waste increasing the environmental services to be provided to clients. The key development drivers of Viscolube are: • a proprietary technology which allows the production of high quality regenerated base oils (gr I+ and gr II), as well as bitumen and gasoil; • consolidation of the Italian dangerous waste collection & management sector, through acquisition, optimization and structuring of a leading player with increasing recycling capabilities. 3
Viscolube base oils: main general features • Viscolube re-refined base oils, obtained through a high pressure catalytic hydrogenation process, present ideal chemical-physical and compositional features for use in the different applications of lubrication, either in the automotive or industrial sector. • The very low sulphur and aromatic components content and the high viscosity index favour the choice of formulation solutions within a wide viscosity interval, able to meet the most severe performances and the environmental requirements demanded from modern lubricants, thus allowing also a saving in the use of additives in the formulations. • The properties of Viscolube re-refined base oils enable to use them in several industrial applications such as rubber and compound manufacturing and, in general, they can be used as efficient process oils. 4

The Sustainability Viscolube considers sustainability a key driver in the process of continuous improvement that guarantees results over time, while reinforcing its business performance and reputation. It is committed to taking action aimed at promoting respect for people and their rights, the environment and, more generally, the communities in which it operates. Fossil fuels (crude oil, gas and coal) are still the most widely used energy sources today, accounting for more than 80% of worldwide energy consumption. Their undisputed leadership is, however, responsible in part for carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere and therefore for the global warming and climate change. Used oil re-refining is environmentally friendly: it transforms a waste into a valuable product, avoids depletion of natural resources and significantly reduces carbon footprint of lubricants and bitumen. That’s a sustainable use of fossil resources The use of regenerated lubricants and bitumen as a feedstock for an industrial process reduces the carbon footprint of the process and increases the sustainability of the relevant products manufactured. 7
Re-refined oil is better for the environment relative burden of regeneration and substituted prim. Re-refined lube oil reduces impact on the environment compared to oils made without re-refined content. The amount of energy used to find, drill, transport and refine crude oil is significant. Re-refined oil eliminates or reduces many of these steps, and therefore has a smaller "carbon footprint”, reduces energy consumption and lowers pollutants. From Linear to Circular Economy Economies have referred in the past to a linear pattern growth (take- makeconsume-dispose) assuming that resources were abundant, available, and cheap to dispose. Now, awareness of environmental constraints requires a circular model where materials and products are re-used, re-paired, refurbished and re-cycled. A more efficient resource use will disclose new growth opportunities and job creation: increasing resource productivity could boost Gross Domestic Product while creating new jobs. 9

Italian& European Regulation for waste oil Used oil is a highly toxic waste regulated at European level EU hierarchy establishes that Re-refining is prioritized compared to other ways of recovery/ disposal (ex. Combustion) Italy leads Europe both in terms of -Effectiveness of regulation (99, 5% of collected used oil sent to regeneration) - % collected on collectable oil (43%) 12
