Arrival • During the arrival period children get their temperature taken and grab a

Arrival • During the arrival period children get their temperature taken and grab a togo breakfast and take it to their classroom. • After they finish their breakfast, they complete an independent morning work reviewing skills we’ve worked on so far. We also get to watch Broadcast, along with saying the Pledge of Allegiance and have a moment of silence. • The tardy bell rings at 7: 40 am

Reading • Children come to kindergarten from many different backgrounds and at different developmental

Reading • Children come to kindergarten from many different backgrounds and at different developmental stages. We use a combination of several different programs to meet the individual needs of the children. – Fundations-This program is designed to introduce letters/sounds, and other foundational phonics skills. – Guided Reading- This works with comprehension and fluency. We teach reading in a small group setting. – i. Ready- A computer program that reinforces our phonics program.

Writing, Science, and Social Studies • This year we are incorporating writing, science, and

Writing, Science, and Social Studies • This year we are incorporating writing, science, and social studies within our whole group reading. Some weeks will be unit focused on a single topic from each area, and other weeks will combine either writing and science or writing and social studies.

Breakfast & Lunch • Breakfast and lunch is free for every student. Students go

Breakfast & Lunch • Breakfast and lunch is free for every student. Students go to the cafeteria for breakfast pick up if they are a bus rider, and to the lobby for breakfast pick up if they are a car rider. • Students have a choice of 3 lunches each day. They are also welcome to bring their lunch from home as long as it’s not junk food or sodas. Visitors are not permitted this year for lunch due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Rotation • Every day the students will go to Music, P. E. , Art,

Rotation • Every day the students will go to Music, P. E. , Art, or Computers. These will last 45 minutes per day and this is the teacher’s planning time. We are free to have conferences at this time, 12: 10 -1: 00, Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, if scheduled in advance.

Math • We teach math in a both small and whole group settings. Our

Math • We teach math in a both small and whole group settings. Our math program this year is Ready Math. This is a new math curriculum purchased by our County which involves a 3 step learning model: Try It, Discuss It, Connect It. • When students have math homework it is taken from the student workbook and is directly correlated with the lesson they did in class that day or a related worksheet.

Recess • We go out for 20 minutes a day. Our recess time is

Recess • We go out for 20 minutes a day. Our recess time is from 11: 10 -11: 25. We believe that children need to run, play, and socialize in an informal setting. We are following social distancing guidelines at recess. They are not allowed on the actual playground this year but are able to run around and kick balls. • We will go outside every day unless it is raining or muddy. In the winter, your child needs to wear an appropriate clothing. Please label your child’s jackets/coats.

Blast Off! • This is an incentive program to help encourage your child to learn the 100 sight words. Sight words are the most frequently used words in the English language. These cannot be sounded out. • When they learn each list just send the folder back and they will read them (mixed-up) to the teacher. After completion of the last list, students will be asked to recall ALL 100 Sight Words to show mastery. When they finish all 100, they will get a super, special prize and they will get a certificate on Honor’s Day.

PBIS is our school wide behavior program. • Positive Behavior Incentive System – Be Safe – Be Responsible – Be Respectful • Each setting (classroom, hallway, etc. ) have expectations This year we have PBIS rewards where the students can earn points for positive behavior choices. They will have the opportunity to earn enough points to attend a party at school.

Fun Friday • At the end of each week each classroom will have Fun

Fun Friday • At the end of each week each classroom will have Fun Friday. Each child will be able to participate if they have 3 happy faces by Thursday. They will also have the opportunity to purchase ice cream for $1 if they earned fun friday.
