A Continuum of Projects A continuum of pilot projects that use relatively small, focused efforts that address issues of: Data acquisition and processing in a shared environment Mining, management and distribution of all relevant data for a carefully selected region of the ocean (federated data base) Distribution and outreach component which brings both the acquisition process and the data base to the wider research community, the classroom and the general public

Data acquisition and processing in a shared environment Ocean Drilling Collaboratory: well-established existing structure including sophisticated database both at sea and post-drilling science and collaboration international participation and high profile existing high bandwidth comms infrastructure

Mining, management and distribution of all relevant data for a carefully selected region of the ocean: Chose relatively small manageable area of the ocean Create federated data base: ODP, NODC, GLOBEC, WOCE, RIDGE, MARGINS …. of all existing data bases (mining effort) - and even individual data sets include subsurface, seafloor, water column, and atmosphere -- - Create a one-stop shopping place for geospatial information in this area -(Hydrate Ridge) Send it all to Reagan (not really -- remain distributed but need to organize through SRB and data grid)

Distribution and outreach component which brings both the acquisition process and the data base to the wider research community, the classroom and the general public Value-added to data grid and/or collaboratory -a series of data manipulation and management tools made available to broader community -- geowalls everywhere Distributed processing and analysis -- distributed application development - but central management of protocols and basic tools
