Let’s look at the features of a non-chronological report.

Technical language. . . • Technical language are words written in bold hey stand out in the text and usually can be found in a glossary at the end of a non fiction book, in a glossary. • We will learn more about this in Key Stage 2.

Research. . . • Today we will be researching animals so that we can write our own non-chronological reports. • We will use our research to complete a plan for our non-chronological reports.

How do we research? First we need some information to read. This can be from a sheet or we can use the internet to find information out. Here I have a sheet all about Mini-beasts, this sheet is all about a snail – I can now fill in the name box with snail. The next box on the plan says appearance. We are not writing sentences just helpful words. Let’s read about the snails appearance and choose some word for our plan. Now we will do the same for movement, diet, habitat, interesting fact. If we can’t find the information on our sheet we can use the internet Kiddle - visual search engine for kids

In your packs. . .

Independent task – on the sheet Please email your work to Mrs Rowe • Choose your animal – Polar ear or Penguin. • Research facts about your chosen animal to complete the boxes on your research plan - Use the information sheets in your pack and / or use the internet

Day 10 February 2021 LO: To be able to write a nonchronological report.

Writing the rest of the report. . . • Yesterday you wrote your title, an introduction and drew a picture of your animal (Polar Bear or Penguin) • Today we are going to finish the report. We are going to write three sections. Each one needs to have a subheading. • On our research plans we have 4 different areas of research –Appearance, Movement, Diet, Habitat. Choose the 3 you would like to include in your report – put a star next to the boxes

Writing our non-chronological report. . . • First we need to write our sub headings. • Let’s write our three subheadings in the boxes ready for our independent task. • (You put a star next to the three you wanted to do)

Writing our non-chronological report. . . • Now we have the sub headings we can write our sentences on to our on. Chronological Report. • To do this we look at the words – our notes – we have written on our plan and turn them into a sentence. • Now we write our sentence on the report under the correct heading.

Independent task – on the sheet Please email your work to Mrs Rowe • You are going to write your information on your Non-Chronological Report today. • We have put the sub-headings on now you need to turn your notes into sentences. • We don’t have much room so you might only be able to writ one or two sentences. • You can use the back of the sheet if you need more room but remember to re-write the sub-heading so we know what your sentences are telling us about.
