She is also the team leader of the Training for Transformation Country Team in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Welcome Today, we gather to celebrate the 2021 Call to Prayer and Self-Denial and give prayerfully and sacrificially. Over the decades, women, children and youth
across the world have felt the love of God through A Call to Prayer and Self-Denial funds that have been given by countless women gathered in circles of care. As United Methodist Women
members, we bow to meet God in prayer and then rise to give of ourselves so that God’s vision of an abundant and beloved community for all can be realized.
The kin-dom comes as we live into the light of God’s vision for humanity, mutuality and seeing oneself in the eyes of another.

History Though the volunteerism of women of the late 1800 -1900 s came the early missional organization and work of United Methodist Women.
Beginning in 1941, The Call to Prayer and Self-Denial annual observance has become a staple of witness and service. The funds raised are used for missional work that equally supports efforts both domestic and international.
We are part of the legacy that began in 1941. You are part of the legacy today!

We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord
And we pray that all unity will one day be restored.
And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love Yes, they’ll know we are Christians by our love.
We will work with each other, we will work side by side
And we'll guard human dignity and save human pride
And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love Yes, they'll know we are Christians by our love.
Song “For Everyone Born, ” Worship and Song, no. 3149 Text by Shirley Erena Murray, Tune by Lori True © 1998 Hope Publishing Company
For ev'ryone born, a place at the table, For ev'ryone born, clean water and bread, A shelter, a space, a safe place for growing, For ev'ryone born, a star overhead,
And God will delight when we are creators Of justice and joy, compassion and peace: Yes, God will delight when we are creators Of justice, justice and joy.
For woman and man, a place at the table, revising the roles, deciding the share, with wisdom and grace, dividing the power, for woman and man, a system that's fair.
And God will delight when we are creators Of justice and joy, compassion and peace: Yes, God will delight when we are creators Of justice, justice and joy.
For young and for old, a place at the table, a voice to be heard, a part in the song, the hands of a child in hands that are wrinkled, for young and for old, the right to belong.
And God will delight when we are creators Of justice and joy, compassion and peace: Yes, God will delight when we are creators Of justice, justice and joy.
For just and unjust, a place at the table, abuser, abused, with need to forgive, in anger, in hurt, a mind-set of mercy, for just and unjust, a new way to live.
And God will delight when we are creators Of justice and joy, compassion and peace: Yes, God will delight when we are creators Of justice, justice and joy.
For everyone born, a place at the table, to live without fear, and simply to be, to work, to speak out, to witness and worship, for everyone born, the right to be free.
And God will delight when we are creators Of justice and joy, compassion and peace: Yes, God will delight when we are creators Of justice, justice and joy.
Scripture Reading: Numbers 27: 1 -8 New Revised Standard Version
“Then the daughters of Zelophehad came forward. Zelophehad was son of Hepher son of Gilead son of Machir son of Manasseh son of Joseph, a member of the Manassite clans.
The names of his daughters were: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. They stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the leaders, and all the congregation, at the entrance of the tent
of meeting, and they said, “Our father died in the wilderness; he was not among the company of those who gathered themselves together against the Lord in the company of Korah, but died for
his own sin; and he had no sons. Why should the name of our father be taken away from his clan because he had no son? Give to us a possession among our father’s brothers. ”
Moses brought their case before the Lord. And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: The daughters of Zelophehad are right in what they are saying;
you shall indeed let them possess an inheritance among their father’s brothers and pass the inheritance of their father on to them. ”
In Numbers 26, a census had been taken among the children of Israel. The Lord had spoken to Moses on how to apportion land for inheritance.
According to Numbers 26: 33, Zelophehad no sons and the instruction he received from the Lord did not specifically include women.
This is when the daughters of Zelophehad made their request, “Give to us a possession among our father’s brothers. ”
When the leaders received this request, Moses knew exactly where to take it. The Lord responded positively. What a great achievement!!!
Women began to own an inheritance because Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah spoke up.
This text shows us that God values us as women. We were created in God’s image. We are equal heirs to God’s kin-dom even here on earth. We need to speak up and make our case known.
Learn and Reflect As we move into our next 150 years of bold mission work, United Methodist Women continues to care for vulnerable women, children and youth.
The programs offered by National Mission Institutions and international partner organizations are made possible with the support of the offering we collect on this special occasion.
Through this missional giving experience, women are empowered. Underserved women, children and families benefit from training and leadership development made possible by the Call to Prayer and Self-Denial offering.
As we invest in women’s lives, they are empowered with GED and ESL expertise, job readiness, life skills and livelihood training, scholarships and microenterprise program support.
