Class Expectations • Students are expected to come to class prepared to learn with the proper tools, an open mind and positive attitude towards learning. • • • Supplies: The following will be helpful for success in the classroom: 3 ring binder college rule binder paper highlighter pens- blue or black ink only index cards
• Grading: Students are graded on all academic assignments such as homework, quizzes, tests, in-class assignments, projects and notebooks. Grades are based on a total points system. Letter grades are based on the following scale:
• This is a rigorous college preparatory class and you will have readings or other homework assignments at least 4 nights a week. You must do the readings and homework to be successful. Expect quizzes or warm-up activities that deal directly with the prior nights work. Give your best effort in completing homework and readings. • LATE WORK IS NOT ACCEPTED; however you may make corrections to improve your grade. Use your learning targets to guide your reading and note taking. Reading notes and other assignments will be collected at the end of each Unit in a Portfolio and count towards your grade.
• You must score in the Advanced, Proficient, or Basic level on the Unit exams. Scores in the Below Basic and Far Below Basic level are not acceptable and test corrections will be made to ensure comprehension of material.
• My Website: I post all assignments and due dates on my website. If you “lost” your copy of the assignment were absent and need the make up work, or just want to have an extra copy. You may print the assignments from my website http: //pvhs. chicousd. org/subsites/Beth. Burton/ It is also linked to the PV homepage under the staff directory.
• Edmodo: This year your class will be using Edmodo to collaborate with one another. This is a free and private program. Only members of our class will have access to the content. You will be setting this account up in class and will need to have a academic email account. • Your class code is 2 ypbex • We will be setting up your account on Thursday but if you are tech savvy feel free to create it tonight.
• Absences: If you are absent it is your responsibility to get the make up work. You will have as many days as you were absent to turn in the make up work. • Unexcused tardies are not acceptable. If you are not in your seat ready to start class when the bell rings, go straight to the main office or campus supervisors to get your tardy slip. If tardiness continues, further action will be taken such as additional detention time or referral to the office as per the campus wide Tardy Policy.
Basic classroom rules • Cell phones, ipods, etc. must be turned off (not silenced) in my class. Consider this your warning. If I see it out it goes to the office. In case of a family emergency please let me know before class starts and we can make an arrangement. There will be times in class when you are allowed to use electronics but these will be announced and monitored.
• No eating or open sticky drink containers allowed in the room. Water is ok. • Using the restroom during class time is seen as a disruption to the learning process. It is the students’ responsibility to use the restroom before school and between classes. You should not have to use the restroom during class time. • We are guests in this room and we must respect Mrs. Tucker’s books, desks, space!
I encourage class discussion and freedom of expression. However, the following norms must be observed:
• I look forward to an amazing year and I hope you are excited as well! If you need to meet with me I am available before school and lunch. Please Email me at bburton@chicousd. org, messages sent before 9: 00 PM will receive almost immediate responses. • Questions?
