Psalm 23 God as Shepherd

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. - Ps. 23: 1

He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. - Ps. 23: 2 -3

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. - Ps. 23: 4

God will Provide • Needs – Pastures • Peace – Still Waters • Regeneration – Righteousness

Rod - Protection Metonymy = Word Staff - Support

God as Host

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows. - Ps. 23: 5

Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. - Ps. 23: 6

Psalm 46 God as Refuge

God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; Though its waters roar and foam, Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. Selah. - Ps. 46: 1 -3

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, The holy dwelling places of the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she will not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns. - Ps. 46: 4 -5

The nations made an uproar, the kingdoms tottered; He raised His voice, the earth melted. 7 The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah. - Ps. 46: 6 -7

Come, behold the works of the Lord, Who has wrought desolations in the earth. He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariots with fire. - Ps. 46: 8 -9

“Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. ” The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our stronghold. Selah. - Ps. 46: 10 -11
