8 th Grade English Language Arts Mrs. Barnhart & Mrs. Rodgers Expectations Materials Face-to-Face and Innovation Students will need the following: Prompt: Be on time. Come into the classroom, Gather your materials, take your seat, and begin your work. Polite: Be nice or neutral to everyone. no bullying will be tolerated. This is a safe zone. Prepared: Come to class ready to learn. Bring something to write with and a positive attitude. Productive: Use your time wisely. Listen to and follow directions. Patient: Great things take. Please listen when others are speaking and wait your turn. • Ready. Florida Workbook • Close Reader Workbook • Reading Standards tracker • Essay Writing Tracker • Writing Utensils: pencils, highlighters, and pens (blue, red, and green) • One grade level book (can be donated to the class library for extra credit) In this ELA course, your child will be working towards mastery of reading informational texts, reading literature, writing, speaking, and listening standards for 8 th grade. Formative 40% Argumentative Essay Writing (Quarter 1) Informative Essay Writing (Quarter 2) Literary Analysis (Quarter 3) Narrative Writing (Quarter 4) (quizzes and classwork) Novels may include: The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee/The Giver by Lois Lowry Discipline Procedures Students who are unable to follow rules and expectations will receive the following consequences: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Please refrain from chewing gum, eating, or drinking in front of the camera. Quarterly Book Project Face-to-Face and Innovation students are given time during class every Wednesday for silent independent reading. They are expected to continue this reading after school for approximately 20 minutes per night. Students are expected to complete an Independent Book Project once a quarter.
