703 v. 707 By: Emmitt, Griffin, Matt, and Jonny
707 Specific Data ● Maximum thickness, Type 707, is 2" (51 mm) ● For use in acoustical wall panels and specialized ceiling applications. ● Density: 7. 0 pcf (112 kg/m 3) ● pcf= pounds per cubic foot
703 Specific Data ● Semi-rigid boards for use on equipment, vessels and air conditioning ductwork ● 3. 0 pcf (48 kg/m 3)
What They are Made of ● 700 Series Insulations are made of inorganic glass fibers with a thermosetting binder and formed into flexible, semi-rigid or rigid rectangular boards of varying densities.
Key Features ● Fiberglass 700 Series Insulations save energy and reduce heat transfer. ● Available in four densities, providing a selection of products to meet specific performance/appearance requirements. ● Resists damage and maintains structural integrity and efficiency. ● Efficiently reduces sound transmission. ● Lightweight and resilient, 700 Series products are easy to handle, fabricate on the job site and install.
Important Physical Property Data ● Nominal density § § 703 - 3. 0 pcf(48 kg/m^2) 707 - 7. 0 pcf(112 kg/m^2) ● Equipment operating temp. limitation § 0 -450’F(-18 to 232’C)
Product Applications ● 703/707 series insulation panels are used to treat sound quality in controlled environments.
Technical Info ● Type 703 board insulation is usually impaled over welded pins on flat surfaces. They are cut in segments and banded in place on irregular surfaces. ● Unfaced boards are normally finished with reinforced insulating cement or weather-proof mastic.
Coatings ASJ (All-Service Jacket) : A vapor retarder laminate of reinforced bleached white kraft/foil construction. FRK : A vapor retarder laminate of foil/ scrim (reinforcement) kraft construction. Also known as FSK.
What is a Sound Absorption Coefficient? ● The Noise Reduction Coefficient (commonly abbreviated NRC) is a scalar representation of the amount of sound energy absorbed upon striking a particular surface. An NRC of 0 indicates perfect reflection; an NRC of 1 indicates perfect absorption. ● The NRC is calculated by taking average of the midfrequency sound absorption coefficients (250, 500, 1000 and 2000 Hertz) rounded to the nearest 5%.
How Does a Sound Coefficient Work? ● As the coefficient of sound increases, sound is absorbed faster.

Questions ● How do you test sound absorption coefficients? ● What is the difference between the ASJ and FRK coatings and what are they used for? ● Would you recommend using a mix of 703 and 707 to treat a single room?
