Science 7 - Curriculum In Grade 7 Science we explore the following units: 1. Life Science: Interactions Within Ecosystems ➢ In this unit students will learn about the different living and nonliving elements that make up and interact within an ecosystem. They will learn about different types food webs and the role of decomposers within a food chain. We will finish this unit by examining what we can do to ensure the success of ecosystems in our community and around the world. 2. Physical Science: Mixtures and Solutions ➢ In this unit students will learn about the components and characteristics of mixtures and solutions. They will be able to describe mixtures and solutions using different qualitative and quantitative characteristics. We will look at lab safety and WHMIS standards as well as how to use graphs to describe data found during lab experiments.

Science 7 - Curriculum 3. Physical Science: Heat ➢ In this unit students will learn about how heat and temperature affect matter and the states of matter. They will look at the different ways in which heat is transferred and absorbed by different materials and the way that we use this in both scientific and real life applications. 4. Earth and Space Science: Earth’s Crust ➢ In this unit students will learn about theory of plate tectonics and their effect on landscapes and connection to natural disasters. They will learn about the ways different rocks and minerals are classified and used to understand Earth’s composition.

Social Studies 7 - Curriculum This year in social studies, we explore the concept of empowerment. We look at different forms of empowerment such as cultural, political, economic, societal, and national. Students will examine different examples of these forms of empowerment in Canadian history by looking at the histories and stories of Indigenous groups, African Canadians, and Acadians. We will examine major moments in Canadian history such as our involvement in WWI, the Northwest Rebellion, and the Industrial Revolution. Students will not only look back at past events but also at current events in Canada. They will make connections between the past and present and reflect on what changes have and have not been made across Canada.

Healthy Living 7 - Curriculum In Healthy Living 7, we will explore the following topics and their relationship to good health: ● Goals & Personal Skills ○ Students will look at their personal values and how they influence their goals. They will learn how to set themselves up for success with personal and school related goals. We will also look at different types of learners and learning mindsets so that students can develop the skills required to succeed in school. ● Mental Health ○ Students will look at how to maintain their own mental health, along with identifying mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, and ADHD. They will learn about treatment options and the importance of having community resources to support mental health. ● Physical Health ○ Students will look at different opportunities to be physically active in their communities. They will look at the connections between different types of physical health & body image.

They will examine what supportive environments look like and what resources are available within their community. ● Healthy Relationships ○ Students will look at the characteristics of respectful and healthy relationships along with warning signs for unhealthy relationships. They will learn about how to make sure interactions with others are safe and positive both in person and online. ● Sexual Health ○ Students will learn about the difference between gender and sexuality. They will look at the risks and outcomes that should be considered which making decisions about their sexuality. They will also learn about the stages of pregnancy and fetal development.
