7 th Grade Course Selection Presentation
Goodbye, 6 th Grade! Hello, 7 th Grade! New to BMSS 7 th Graders this year: • Dance class has been added and can be taken as an elective or instead of P. E. • Jazz band has been added but must be taken with another band class. • Theatre Arts I and Art I are now a year long class vs. a semester class. • American Sign Language (ASL) has been added. • Advanced courses are now called Honors instead of Pre-Ap.
As a Seventh Grader, you will be required to take: • ELAR (English, Language, and Reading) – 1 year • Math – 1 year • Science – 1 year • Texas History – 1 year • Digital Literacy II – 1 semester • Wellness– 1 semester • College and Career Readiness – 1 semester • Physical Education/Athletics/Dance) - 1 year • Fine Arts – 1 year required in middle school

INDEPENDENT STUDY MENTORSHIP – GT students only 1 year elective Independent Study Mentorship Middle School (ISM-MS) is open to 6 th, 7 th and 8 th grade Gifted/Talented students. The course follows the Texas Performance Standards Project (TSPS) curriculum. Students have the opportunity to explore an area of interest in depth through the use of sophisticated and advanced research methods and contact with a mentor in their chosen field of study. The year-long project will result in a polished, public presentation of the product with a question and answer session.
Be sure to discuss your course choices with your parents and to get approval for Honors courses from your current teachers.

Things to Think About…. When choosing an elective, choose wisely. Teachers are hired based on the number of students signed up for a class. Electives can only be dropped under extenuating circumstances. Once you’ve chosen your classes, you can go from Honors to an on-level class if it’s too difficult but you cannot switch from an on level class to an Honors class. Schedule changes for Honors classes can be made between the 4 th and 6 th week of school.
