Let's look at why things are packaged the way they are. Example: Shoes How are most shoes packaged? What would happen if shoes were packaged in a bag? Now imagine yourself in a shoe store where all the shoes are in bags.

Example: Cereal typically comes in a box. Why? Why is the inside bag sealed? Why is there so much writing on the box? Who is the intended consumer for this box of cereal? How can you tell?

Example: Fruit Any fruit that is packaged is in a container that allows you to see the product. Why is that important?

It's your turn to examine some packages more closely and talk about their functions.

First, draw a picture of the product with the packaging at the top of the page. Then, fill in the table telling what part is the package, what part is the product, who is the consumer and what functions you see on this package. Here's an example: Golf balls in a package product consumer functions
