Response to a Wind Storm by All Team Members All team members should know where to go in the event of a severe wind storm or tornado. During high-wind weather or when warned of high-wind weather go to the following location described in your Hotel-specific Emergency Information Guide. Response to a Wind Storm by All Team Members (cont. ) If you are unable to safely make it to that location, go into a closet or small room with no windows or skylight. If possible, choose a closet or room with no outside walls. If you must stay in a room with windows, lie down against the wall farthest from the windows. Do not go outdoors until the storm or tornado warning has ended. If you are outdoors and unable to get inside, lie down in the lowest spot you can find, close to the building or wall, and try to protect yourself from flying debris. Manager-on-duty Actions before a Wind Storm Arrives After being advised of high-wind or tornado alert while serving as manager-on-duty, react calmly and proceed as follows: 1. Note the time of the notice. 2. Advise all supervisors to report to the area of the fire panel for instructions. If necessary, telephone the maintenance supervisor at home and instruct him or her to report to the Hotel if he or she can do so safely. 3. Close and lock all exterior doors. Advise guests and team members to proceed to interior halls, rooms and offices and to remain there until advised to move. 6. Close the swimming pool and lock the pool gates. 7. If time permits and it is safe to do so, secure equipment and other items located outside the building to prevent damage or loss. For example, bring indoors all outdoor tables, chairs, umbrellas, barbecues, flags, etc. 8. If time permits, tape and board up windows, starting with the largest and most dangerous. This is a standard procedure and will not fit every situation. Common sense and discretion are necessary to keep our guests, visitors and team members safe. The Manager-on-duty’s Actions Immediately after the Storm Immediately after a windstorm, go outside to assess the damage. Be careful of fallen electrical lines. Mark dangerous areas with tape and barricades to warn others to stay away. Place a team member to warn others away from these areas Check for gas leaks where gas appliances may have been damaged. Check with all Hotel guests, team members and visitors (including meeting rooms) to be certain they are safe. Begin the clean up, listing and recording all damage. Take photographs of damaged areas.
