The Purpose of This Policy The purpose of this policy is to protect the safety of Hotel guests, visitors and team members during severe winter weather. B. Introduction Severe winter weather may come in different forms, each of which has the potential to adversely affect the Hotel's operations, guests' comfort and the safety of guests and team members. Commuting by Team Members during Severe Weather During severe weather it may be unsafe for team members to travel to or from work. When employees are unable to safely get to work, we may ask the employees presently at the Hotel to stay until their replacements can arrive. When the manager-on-duty believes it is unsafe for team members to leave, he or she encourages team members to stay in the Hotel, including overnight if necessary. Commuting by Team Members during Severe Weather (cont. ) While staying in the Hotel, team members may not use other guest facilities, such as the fitness room, unless approved to do so by the manager-on-duty. While an employee is residing in the Hotel, normal payroll policies apply regarding overtime. Only time worked is compensated. Time spent in the Hotel while not working is not compensated. Your Assignments during Severe Weather As in any emergency, during severe weather the manager-on-duty may require team members to work in departments or on assignments different from their normal work routine. Additionally, he or she may require team members to work overtime or beyond their originally scheduled time to accommodate the emergency needs to provide for the safety or comfort of our guests and visitors or to protect the Hotel's assets. Maintenance Staff Procedures during Severe Winter Weather During severe winter weather the maintenance department has the following responsibilities: 1. Protect the safety of Hotel guests and employees. To provide for guest and employee safety, the maintenance department does the following: v Keep sidewalks, driveways and parking areas clear of ice and snow. v Restrict non-essential outdoor stairways and ramps from being used. v Continuously remove moisture on floors. Protect the safety of Hotel guests and employees (cont. ) v Restrict access to potentially hazardous areas, such as roofs, pool decks, patios and balconies. v Check all emergency equipment to be certain that it is in good working order. v Remove icicles and snow from roof areas where a potential hazard exists. v Keep the manager-on-duty informed on the status of all safety issues. v Assist other departments, such as housekeeping, to protect the safety of Hotel guests and team members. Protect Hotel property. v Insulate pipes and related plumbing that are outside or in any way exposed to the cold weather. v Provide additional heat or insulation to any storeroom and mechanical areas at risk from cold weather. v Remove ice and snow from roofs that may endanger the roofs' structures. Guest Services during Severe Weather If severe weather reduces the available Hotel staff, it may be necessary to temporarily limit some non-essential guest services. These may include the reduction or temporary suspension of any one or all of the following services: v use of some entrances and exits, v daily guestroom housekeeping services, v administrative office hours, v guest valet laundry and dry cleaning services, v food-and-beverage outlet hours and services, and v guest transportation services.
