600. Emergency Response Guide, 679 Robbery Emergency Action Plan B. Help Avoid a Robbery Sometimes criminals do not plan robberies. They may commit robberies when they see opportunities. You can avoid this kind of robbery by doing the following: v Do not leave cash drawers open or unattended. v Do not leave cash in view of the public or other team members. Take cash out of view of guests and visitors. v When you have large amounts of money, call your supervisor to have it removed or make a partial deposit. Get a receipt from the supervisor for the funds transferred. v Do not count cash in view of others. v Do not discuss with guests or team members the amounts of money your department or the Hotel receives. 600. Emergency Response Guide, 679 Robbery Emergency Action Plan C. During a Robbery If you are a victim or witness of a robbery, remain calm and do nothing that will endanger lives. It is our policy that NO EMPLOYEE SHALL ACTIVELY RESIST A ROBBERY. In the event of a robbery, follow these procedures: v Do as you are told. Do not try to be heroic. v Do not scream or attempt to attract attention to the situation. v Do not panic. When you panic, your actions may be mistaken as resistance. During a Robbery (cont. ) v Try to form a mental picture of the robber, especially distinguishing characteristics (height, weight, age, scars, hair color and style, clothing, accent, etc. ). Do not provoke the robber by staring closely for a better description, however. v DO NOT FOLLOW THE ROBBER. If you see the vehicle, get its description, but do not go outside to do so. 600. Emergency Response Guide, 679 Robbery Emergency Action Plan E. Immediately after a Robbery Immediately after a robbery, take the following actions: v Notify the manager-on-duty. Tell him or her of the incident and where the robber exited the Hotel. Answer his or her questions. The manager-on-duty will ask you the robber's race, height, weight, clothing and distinguishing characteristics. The manager-on-duty will notify the police. v Immediately after calling the manager-on-duty (while everything is still fresh in your mind), write down everything you can remember about the robber and his or her actions. v Cooperate fully with the police investigation. v Do not make any statement to the news media. The Manager-on-duty’s Response to a Robbery If you receive notification of a robbery on Hotel property, take the following actions: 1. Call 9 -1 -1 and report the information to the police. 2. Go to the scene. Enter the area cautiously in case the robber is still in the area. 3. Comfort and calm the victim. Remove him or her from the work area. 4. When the victim is able, help him or her complete the Robbery Description form. 6. Cooperate with the police investigation. 7. Offer the victim the opportunity to leave work. Arrange for coverage of the victim's work. 8. Complete a Robbery Description Report and distribute it to the general manager. 9. Send a facsimile of the Robbery Report to other area hotels.
