600. Emergency Response Guide, 603 Assault and Battery Emergency Action Plan A. The Purpose of This Policy The purpose of this policy is to protect the safety of our guests, visitors and team members by responding appropriately to reports of assault and/or battery. “Assault” and “battery” are legally defined differently from each other, but for the purposes of this policy we are referring to any intentional striking or attempted striking of one person by another. Response to Assault or Battery by Team Members If you witness someone assaulting or battering another, whether involving guests, visitors or employees, do the following: 1. Do not attempt to stop the assault unless you can be certain that you can do so with complete safety to yourself. Normally, it is not safe for you to intervene. 2. Response to Assault or Battery by Team Members (cont. ) If you are assaulted or battered on Hotel property by anyone, retreat to a safe area and promptly report the matter to your supervisor or the manager-on-duty. Your Response to the Report of an Assault or Battery If a Hotel guest, visitor or employee tells you of a past assault or battery occurring on Hotel property, report the matter immediately to your supervisor or the manager-on-duty. Procedures for the Front-desk Staff in Response to a Report of an Assault or Battery If while working at the front desk you receive a report of a potential assault or battery, take the following actions at once: 1. Get the basic information, including the location and a description of the participants. 2. Call 9 -1 -1 and report the information that you received. 3. The Manager-on-duty Procedure in Response to a Report of an Assault or Battery If while performing as manager-on-duty you receive a report of an assault or battery, take the following actions: 1. Confirm that the police have been called. 2. Go to the area and, if needed, keep others at a safe distance. 3. Stand by and wait for police assistance. 4. If needed, arrange for medical treatment for any participants. If an employee is injured, handle the employee's medical treatment as a work-related injury. Notify the general manager. 6. After the incident is over, interview witnesses and gather other evidence. Take photographs of the area and all evidence. 7. Get a copy of the police report and case number, if available. 8. On MMI Report Site (in the Safety and Security section), prepare and distribute an Incident Report.
