Appropriate Workplace Behaviors • Initiative- the willingness to do what needs to be done without being told to do so. • Self-motivation- the drive to do something simply for the reward of feeling good and satisfied once it is done. • Teamwork-working together collaboratively with a group to set goals, make decisions, solve problems, and put ideas into action.

Appropriate Workplace Behaviors, cont. • Cooperation- working with others to reach a common goal. • Punctuality- arriving on or before the stated time. • Adaptability skills- a person’s ability to change in order to fit circumstances that may arrive.

What is work ethic? A set of values based on the moral virtues of hard work and diligence.

Ethical Behavior • Arriving at work on time and working the hours you say you will. • Using company money wisely and only for company business. • Using company property carefully and only for company business.

Ethical Behavior • Keeping company information secret from people outside the company. • Treating your employer, co-workers, and customers fairly, openly, and with honesty.

Unethical Behavior • Arriving late to work • Talking negatively about fellow employees • Lying • Violating safety regulations • Misreporting of actual time worked • Discrimination • Stealing • Sexual harassment

Importance of Ethical Behavior • Builds a good reputation that you are dependable and reliable • Builds character • Makes you feel proud • Employers may advance you faster • Possible increased compensation (pay) • Helps you build references for future employment opportunities
