SCHEDULE • 7: 35 - Tardy Bell Rings • 7: 35 -8: 20 - Focused Instruction • 8: 20 - 9: 10 - CAMP • 9: 10 -11: 15 -ELAR or Math/Science • 11: 20 -11: 40 - Recess • 11: 40 -12: 10 - Lunch • 12: 15 -12: 45 Social Studies • 12: 45 -2: 40 ELAR or Math/Science • 2: 45 Dismissal Please be diligent and try to schedule dr. and dentist appts. after school or during the CAMP/recess/lunch block.
ATTENDANCE • Tardies keep students from receiving Perfect Attendance (Tardy Bell rings at 7: 35) Ninety Percent Rule • A student’s absences can not exceed 17 days/year. It includes excused and unexcused absences. • Section 25. 092 conditions credit for a class on a student’s attendance for at least 90 percent of the days a class is offered. (TEA Website)

CURINGTON P. E. SHOE POLICY WEARING THE WRONG SHOES CAN REALLY IMPACT A STUDENT’S SAFETY OR SUCCESS DURING PE ACTIVITIES. SHOES LIKE BOOTS, SANDALS, SLIPONS, EVEN DRESS SHOES CAN GET IN THE WAY WITH SIMPLE ACTIVITIES LIKE RUNNING, JUMPING, AND STOPPING. IT IS IMPORTANT FOR STUDENTS TO WEAR PROPER FOOTWEAR (I. E. TENNIS SHOES, RUNNING SHOES, OR SNEAKERS) IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE SAFELY IN CLASS ACTIVITIES, AND TO BE SUCCESSFUL WITH THOSE ACTIVITIES. YOUR COOPERATION FOR THEIR SAFETY AND ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.
LIBRARY HAPPENINGS Items needed for our Makerspace There are some really fun and exciting things going on in the CES Library this year. FOOD/LUNCH POLICIES • When bringing cupcakes, cookies, etc. for your child’s birthday, it may not be served in the cafeteria and must be served after lunch. Please make it easy to serve – nothing we have to cut. • Please be mindful that we do have children with nut allergies. • If you plan on eating lunch with your child, you may only take your child to that visitor table or sit with your child at the class table.
NURSE/ILLNESS • For a fever of 100. 4 or greater a student must be kept home for 24 hrs. until they are fever free (without the aid of fever reducing medications). • All medications must go through the nurse’s office and come directly from the parent, not from the student. • For example: Do not send Tylenol, tums, or any medication with your child. • All medications must have a Dr. ’s order and be in their original container and kept in the nurse’s office (even over the counter medications).
TRANSPORTATION CHANGES • Please email as soon as you know, but before 2: 00. • Please let the office know before 2: 00.
VOLUNTEER PROCEDURES • You may print or pick up a background check form at your child’s school. • Fill out and sign form and return to your child’s school. • You must turn in form 7 work days prior to your child’s event to allow proper time for processing. • You must fill out a volunteer history form prior to any time you plan to volunteer throughout the school year (see FAQ for further explanation) • *BISD Website*
PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED • Room Moms-To set up/manage class parties • Copy Moms- Come Wed. , Thurs. or Friday to make copies, laminate, cut, etc. • Please let your child’s teacher know if you’re available to help. • Field Trips • WAT • Ice Cream on Fridays
FIELD TRIPS • Dates: • Ag Day – Sept. 19 th • Institute of Texan Cultures or Alamo---Spring 2019 • Criminal background form must be completed in order to attend. Your form needs to be turned in at least two weeks prior to the field trip. • Parent Expectations • Chaperones-You are helping supervise ALL Children • District policy states No siblings allowed • Parents must take their own vehicle or carpool.
GRADES • It is important to continue to encourage your child if they have a failing grade. • Thursday-Incentive Recess • Students who are missing work, need to makeup work, or need to redo work will attend Study Hall.

PHONICS: WORDS THEIR WAY Routines and Schedule • Friday-Receive a new sort and discuss in class. • Monday-Resort your words and complete a written sort. • Tuesday- Go on a scavenger hunt to find other words that fit the pattern. • Wednesday- Blind sort with a partner • Thursday- Review your most troublesome words • Friday-Spelling Test and repeat
MATH/SCIENCE • Timed tests for Fact Fluency-Multiplication and Division thru 12’s • District Unit tests • Personal finance-Lemonade Day • Please sign up in spring semester • First Sunday in May
HOMEWORK • ELAR • Students will typically have a reading log and spelling homework. • Homework is given on Friday and taken up the following Friday. • Math • Students will typically have a math packet that will include a review of what has already been covered and a fact fluency sheet. • Homework is given on Monday and collected on Thursday.
AT HOME PROJECTS • 1 st Semester - Native American Artifact Project (Social studies) • 2 nd Semester - Weather Project (Science) and Lemonade day (optional)
