We define culture as “the way we do things here” We are working to build a “culture” that Honors the Game. Honoring the game gets to the roots of positive play. Let’s see what ROOTS stand for. . .

HONORING THE GAME n n R: RULES – Refuse to bend the rules even to win O: OPPONENTS – A worthy opponent is a gift that brings out our best. It is not much fun to beat a much weaker opponent. n O: OFFICIALS – Respect the officials, teachers and playground supervisors even when you disagree n n T: TEAMMATES – Never do anything on or off the field that would embarrass your teammates. S: SELF – live up to your own standards. Even if others bend the rules, you choose not to.

You can see what happened when a ball was kicked over the fence.

A Good Idea n n Everyone likes to play. If there are more than 7 people who want to play 4 square. . . Start another square of 4 people. Four people waiting in line is too many!!!!

A Good Idea n n This way everyone gets to play and no one has to wait in line very long. Children are more willing to admit they are out if they don’t have to wait in line a long time. Square 1 Square 2 NO ONE IS WAITING IN LINE!

If you always have to be told when you are out or you make a fuss when you are out, the game is not fun. n Let your teachers or playground supervisor know if someone continually has to be reminded when they are out.
