What is a 4 -H Presentation?
4 -H Presentations ● ● A successful way to help a young person learn how to give a public speech Create an opportunity for members to teach others about what they know about a particular subject matter Can be: A. Illustrated Talks B. Demonstrations C. Formal Speeches Offer members to present as individuals or in teams of 2
What are the benefits?
Benefits of 4 -H Presentations ● ● Increase public speaking skills Increase self-confidence Increase knowledge and interest in particular subject matter Will help in the long-run with: ○ Communicating ○ 4 -H Clubs and projects ○ College and post-secondary education ○ Careers
Benefits of 4 -H Presentations Once you master creating and giving speeches, you will have: ● ● ● Learned much about yourself and your best style of presenting. Learned how to research and organize the facts about a topic. Learned how to evaluate them in terms of significance and importance to various audiences.
4 -H Presentation Categories
4 -H Presentation Categories ● ● There are nine curriculum areas with multiple categories within to choose from Curriculum areas: ○ Animal Science ○ Citizenship & Civic Engagement ○ Communication & Expressive Arts ○ Consumerism ○ Environmental Science ○ Healthy Lifestyles ○ Personal Development & Leadership ○ Plant Science ○ Science & Technology

What are the rules?
4 -H Presentations Rules & Regulations ● ● A full list of the rules and regulations can be found Here Age eligibility is established as of January 1 st. Age divisions: A. 8 -10 B. 11 -13 C. 14 -18 For all general presentation categories, a minimum of 5 minutes and a maximum of 12 minutes are expected. Time limit exceptions include: A. Public Speaking (5 -7 minutes) B. Horse Categories (See handout) C. Turkey Barbeque, Chicken Barbeque, Pork Cookery, and Beef Char-grill (2 hours)
4 -H Presentations Rules & Regulations ● ● ● Each county is allowed to submit two members in each age division in each category. Members MUST present at County Activity Day(virtual) to be eligible to compete in District and State levels. Members may continue to compete in a presentation category until declared a state gold winner until a new age division is reached.
4 -H Presentations Rules & Regulations ● ● No live animals may be used in any presentation (this includes insects) No weapons/firearms or anything resembling these items are allowed Avoid promoting any brand items (you can cover the labels) Costumes are allowed, but 4 -H dress code is required
What is new this year? • • • Entertains and cookery will be held in the fall Presentations at the County, District, and State level will be virtual Videos must be a single cut Must see 4 -H’er at all times Supporting materials (slide show, flyer) must be submitted along with registration Registration and video upload form here Questions will be on the district rubric, these will need to be answered in the video you record to submit to state Have a family member or helper hold supporting materials if needed Be sure to look at the camera!!
