4. 4_Fouling marks, distance pieces to platform lines Periods 1
Fouling Mark • It is the mark at which the infringement of fixed standard dimensions occurs, where two lines cross or join one another. • These should be fixed at the point at which the spacing between the tracks begin to reduce less than the minimum as laid down in SOD not less than 4. 265 Mts for existing yards and 5. 300 Mts for new yard lines. • Purpose is to avoid side collision between two trains on adjacent track. • Fouling marks should be distinctly visible and difficult to remove.
• They are made up of stone or concrete blocks With top edge rounded off and top surface white washed. Length = 1500 mm. Width = 250 mm. Height = 125 mm. • They are also made of unserviceable rail pieces embedded in concrete support with same dimensions above and painted white. • These shall be laid level with top line of ballast. • Number of wagons which can be accommodated should be marked on each fouling mark.
D = 4. 265 M
As per SEM Para no 17. 11 • Track circuit termination For track circuited points or lines in a station, track circuit termination shall be provided sufficiently before the Fouling Mark so as to avoid infringement to the standard dimension by any portion of the vehicle. The distance between track circuit termination and Fouling Mark shall not be less than 3. 0 metres.
Distance Pieces to Platform Lines • Tracks adjacent to platforms should be provided with distance pieces. • These should be made of unserviceable timber or any suitable material fixed at intervals of about 30 m. • one end of each such piece butting against the near rail and the other against the face of the platform wall. • to obviate the possibility of infringement of the horizontal distance from centre of track to face of platform coping.
