365 Artists 365 Days is a year long project, which was launched on January 1, 2014 by the Frank Juarez Gallery (Sheboygan) and Greymatter Gallery (Milwaukee). What started as a way to spotlight contemporary artists daily from across the country attracted the attention of artists from across the globe living in Australia, Canada, Germany, Israel, Lithuania, Malaysia, Scotland, Serbis, Singapore, Slovenia, and the United Kingdom. 8 Steps to Building Art Knowledge through Literacy Source: Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Disciplinary Literacy in Art & Design 1) Build prior knowledge. 2) Build specialized vocabulary. 3) Learn to deconstruct complex visual representation of ideas. 4) Use knowledge of artistic elements and genres to identify main and subordinate ideas within the piece. 5) Articulate what the graphic representations mean within a work or ideas to support its main components. 6) Pose discipline relevant questions. 7) Compare artistic elements of the work to other artwork. 8) Use reasoning within the discipline (i. e. , what counts as evidence to evaluation claims).

THE PROCEDURE ★ Teacher selects the artists of the day focusing on one subject matter, genre or movement relating to the current project. ★ ★ Class Each is group divided is into groups of 4 -5 assigned one artist by students the . teacher. ★ Students will be given 5 -7 minutes to peruse/research the assigned artist. Students are encouraged to visit artists’ websites located at the bottom of the interview. ★ Students reconvene as a group to share findings. A note taker will compile findings into a paragraph or bulleted item list for the group’s presenter. ★ Presenter will share their summary to the entire class. 2 -3 minutes are allocated for presentations. ★ Students will write on a post-it note one fact they learned from another group’s presentation.
