INTRODUCTION Perhaps one of the greatest inventions of our time is the internet. Without a doubt, the net has had a profound effect on almost every aspect of our lives. The formation of the internet has changed the way we do business, communicate, entertain, retrieve information, and even educate ourselves. Nevertheless, the internet might not have ever materialized if it had not been for some innovative thinkers from the Advanced Research Projects Agency, who created “ARPANET”. MODEM- allows 1 computer to talk to another computer via a phone line. SEARCH ENGINE- A facility that allows the user to enter keywords or phrase to retrieve information on a specific topic. COMMUNICATION Communication is used frequently by all internet users. There are millions of chat rooms with users chatting at all hours, day and night. There also private chat lines such as msn and ICQ, where you add your friends email addresses to your contact lists and chat to them privately. Electronic mail is used for both business and personal reasons due to the convenience of it’s fast and reliable service. On the internet users can send messages to mobile phones, they can also make calls over the internet phone line. The internet can also be used as a fax machine, with the use of a scanner you can scan documents and send them away with the click of a button. Communication technology over the internet is growing and growing, you can now also send video messages and audio messages as well as the common text message. 3/12/2021 14

ISSUES Some issues regarding to the internet are: l Access Restrictions l Virus’s Some Sites are inappropriate to younger people, this l Y 2 K may because of nudity, explicit language or violence. There also sights which aren’t only inappropriate to younger viewers but also cost money to view. Such sites as, Pornographic sites charge viewers to visit their site. 3/12/2021 Virus’s can be easily caught while on the net. Some virus’s are attached to emails and spread through to your files on your computer the moment you open that email. Effects of virus’s vary, most virus’s cause your computer to crash or programs to malfunction. 16

Y 2 K-THE MILLENIUM BUG As the year 2000 became nearer thoughts and theory’s were being brought up and discussed whether or not it will affect computers and other devices with electronic processors, on the stroke of midnight 1, 2000. It was predicted wrong, that the internet would collapse along with everything else in the world. FUTURE Over 30 years the internet grew outstandingly and the number of people who telecommute will continue to increase. E-banking will also increase with people continuously using foreign banks as for their services are cheaper than local banks. As for computer and the internet, it is technology that is taking over our lives. With multipurpose, the internet is utilized for medical practice, communication and as a reference.
