Let’s revisit what we should know We can use a formal written method to multiply 2 digits by 2 -digits. First we do 4 x 53 First, multiply 4 × 3 = 12. Put the 2 in the units column and the 1 tens below the tens column. Next, multiply 4 × 5(0) = 20(0). Add the 1 tens from the previous step and put 1 in the tens column. Then, put the 2 in the hundreds column. Now we do 40 x 53 Now, add a zero to the ones column on the 2 nd row - this acts as a place holder because a tens number is being multiplied. Next, multiply 4(0) × 3 = 12(0) and put the 2 in the tens column and the 1 hundred below the hundreds column. Then, multiply 4(0) × 5(0) = 20(00). Don’t forget to add the 1 hundred and put 1 in the hundreds column and 2 in the thousands column.
T Model: Use the formal multiplication method to complete the calculation below. 1) 263 x 34= 8942 2) Annie earns £ 1, 325 per week. How much would he earn in 14 weeks? Annie earns £_____ in 14 weeks. x 1325 14 ( 1325 x 4) (1325 x 10) Add them together
