Week 7 This week will be a continuation of Indirect Objects. Remember to find the Indirect Object : Say the subject, say the verb, say the direct object and ask to whom?

Week 8 If there is a direct object in a sentence, there may be an objective complement that follows it. An objective complement will either be a noun that renames the direct object, or an adjective that describes the direct object. Some sentences have objective complements and some don’t.

Week 8 If there is an objective complement, it will be located after the direct object. The word order would be: Subject, verb, direct object, objective complement Golf experts consider Tiger Woods a special talent. His personality makes him valuable. Box and label the objective complements in the sentence.

Week 8 Fruitless- (adj. ) not producing the desired results, unsuccessful. Synonyms: useless, vain, unproductive, futile Antonyms: productive, effective Hostile- (adj. ) unfriendly; unfavorable; warlike, aggressive. Synonyms: unfriendly, not Antonyms: friendly, cordial, peaceful cordial Inflammable- (adj. ) easily set on fire; easily angered or aroused. Synonyms: combustible, flammable, excitable Antonyms: fireproof, fire-resistant, calm Inflict- (v. ) to give or cause something unpleasant, impose. Synonyms: deal out, visit upon Antonyms: suffer, undergo, sustain Malignant- (adj. ) deadly, extremely harmful, evil; spiteful, malicious. Week 9 We are continuing with Objective Complements with week. Remember: Objective Complements are found after the Direct Object in the sentence. Enclose the Objective Complement in a box and label it with “O. C. ”

Week 9 Mortify- (v. ) to hurt someone’s feelings deeply; to cause embarrassment or humiliation; to subdue or discipline by selfdenial or suffering. Synonyms: humiliate, embarrass, abash Orthodox- (adj. ) in agreement with established or generally accepted beliefs or ways of doing things. Week 10 We are going to continue to focus on finding the objective complements.

Week 10 Spirited- (adj. ) full of life and vigor; courageous. Synonyms: lively, animated, gallant Antonyms: lifeless, dull, lackluster Virtual- (adj. ) having a certain force or effect in fact but not in name; so close as to be equivalent to the real thing. Synonyms: functioning as, equivalent to Void- (adj. ) completely empty; having no legal force or effect; (n. ) empty or unfilled space; (v. ) to cancel, or nullify. Synonyms: invalid, vacant, bare Antonyms: ( adj. ) in effect (v. ) confirm Wayward- (adj. ) disobedient, willful; unpredictable, capricious. Week 11 If the verb is a LINKING VERB, there will not be a direct object, indirect object, or an objective complement. A subject complement follows a linking verb. It will be either a predicate nominative or a predicate adjective. It will still be boxed as a “complement” of the sentence and labeled with initials.

Week 11 A predicate nominative is a noun or a pronoun that renames the subject. (The pronouns that can be predicate nominatives are “I, we, you, she, it, and they. ”) A predicate adjective is an adjective that describes the subject. Hint: Remember that a predicate nominative can be made plural, plural but a predicate adjective cannot.

Week 12 We are continuing to find the predicate nominatives and predicate adjectives in our sentences this week. Remember: predicate nominatives are nouns that rename the subject and predicate adjectives are adjectives that describes the subject

Week 13 Compliments Review If the sentence has an ACTION VERB, look to see if it has a DIRECT OBJECT. If it does contain a direct object, then check to see if it also has an INDIRECT OBJECT. If it doesn’t have an indirect object, see it is has an OBJECTIVE COMPLEMENT. Direct Objects Say the subject say the verb then ask whom? or what?
