3 - 6 MONTH INFANT FEEDING
THREE MONTH FEEDING Provide Only breastmilk or formula until 6 months of age At 3 months your baby is not ready for cereal or any solid foods At 3 months your baby will generally take in 26 -32 ounces per day
SIX MONTH FEEDING At 6 months of age the primary form of nutrition for your baby will still be breastmilk or formula At this age you can start introducing baby cereal and single ingredient stage one baby food
FIRST SOLID FOOD AT 6 MONTHS Start with plain, Infant rice cereal Rice cereal can be mixed with equal amounts of breastmilk or formula Start with one feeding per day of solid per day
INTRODUCING STAGE 1 FOODS Start by offering a plain fruits or plain vegetable “stage one” baby food Offer one new food at a time Wait 7 days between offering new foods When trying a new food, start with a small amount ( 1 -2 teaspoons)
USING STORE BOUGHT BABY FOOD Check the expiration date and for the lid to “pop” when opening Always use a clean spoon to take food out of the jar and put it in a clean dish After feeding throw away any food left in the bowl Throw away baby food left in the jar after 2 days of opening
TIPS FOR FEEDING YOUR BABY Wash your baby’s hands before meals Feed your baby when the rest of the family eats Clean your baby’s teeth daily by brushing with a soft child toothbrush and water
WATCH FOR SIGNS OF FOOD ALLERGIES Signs of allergies include: § Skin rash § Coughing or Wheezing § Diarrhea § Ear infections § Vomiting § Gas or Stomach pain
