However, we must also recognize that God calls us to be humble—recognizing that we are not the best yet not to feel shame about it. Jesus is going to show us exactly how to do that.
A. The Humiliation of Christ began with his incarnation
Jesus is God and King of the Universe! BUT On earth, He came to be a servant (Mark 10: 45) He held back His divine power and lived like a human (Phil 2: 5 -8)
Jesus was perfect and holy, but He had to live among sinners and party animals
Jesus was born in a tiny town (Bethlehem), not a huge important city.
Jesus was born in a stable, not a palace.
B. The humiliation of Christ continued in His early life
He had poor Jewish parents
He was raised in Nazareth, a small town with a bad reputation

He often didn’t have housing or feel at home with his family
He was blasphemed and called a demon Blasphemy NOUN
He took a lower position for a while “But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. ” Hebrews 2: 9 GOD
D. The humiliation of Christ intensified during the week of His Crucifixion
He lived to be only ~33 years old (short life)
Entered Jerusalem for the last time while riding a donkey, not a warhorse
He borrowed an upper room during Passover (didn’t have his own house or palace in Jerusalem)
He was betrayed for a slave’s price A few Old Testament passages reference 30 pieces of silver as a slave’s price. Perhaps by Jesus’ time slaves were more expensive because of inflation. It’s difficult to say
He was tortured unmercifully
His followers denied him during Jesus’ darkest hour
Jesus felt God’s abandonment and displeasure on the cross for the first time
