23 rd June 2020 Diary Entry LO: To plan and write an additional diary entry in Michael’s log
Planning your diary entry Look at your map from yesterday’s lesson. Choose a location, which wasn’t mentioned in the book, to write a diary entry for. Answer these questions in list form or as a mind-map. What has happened? What can you smell? What are you thinking about? What can you see?
Feelings and emotions We are going to focus on describing Michael’s feelings and emotions in his diary entry. How would he be feeling? Have a look at the emotive language on the next slide to help develop your vocabulary.
Thoughts Including thoughts in diary writing allows the reader to see inside the persons head. Add notes based on these questions around your mindmap. What has Michael been thinking about? Does he have any particular worries or highlights? Is there anything he is looking forward to seeing or perhaps even dreading?
Anecdote An anecdote is a short, interesting story. What anecdote could you include in your diary? An example from Kensuke’s Kingdom is when Stella Artois goes overboard and they have to spring into action to save her.
Writing You are now going to write your diary entry for your chosen location. One paragraph is plenty but if you want to write more you can! Try and include emotive language to describe Michael’s feelings. Can your include figurative language to describe? See the next slide for all the excellent features of diary writing.
