21/05/2021 Main Urban Challenge/Priority § Accra has no street names and property numbering § The absence of street addressing system poses challenges for navigation system, orientation, property tax collection, postal services, emergency services, urban planning and the private sector. § To address these challenges, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly implemented a street addressing system in Accra with financial support from the World Bank. 21/05/2021 Project Intervention(s) • 3782 streets digitized with the use of orthophotos and assigned names • 125, 000 properties/parcels identified and sequentially numbered (including 32 informal communities). • Street name signage infrastructure (6, 780 poles and 12, 952 plates) procured and installed • Numerous public awareness, sensitization, education, information and communication programmes have been done on the Street Addressing System exercise. • Development of Spatial maps for bill distribution.
