21 & 22 Jul 20 doc. : IEEE 802. 18 -20/0109 r 01 Modernizing and Expanding Access to the 70/80/90 GHz Bands (2 of 3) • This is E-Band ; With new technologies on sharing (from original plans in 2005), could something be done in these three bands? • Could we look to expand our standards above 71 GHz, e. g. in P 802. 11 ay? • Would only be a maintenance activity • 802. 15. 3 e would be able to add channels also as a maintenance effort. • An opinion is so far it seems the FCC is not favoring IEEE 802 standards; we should review further and speak up. • Note, a member has done an excellent summary of the band, rules and etc. It can greatly help guide us if we can get some comments together. We can step through it. • https: //mentor. ieee. org/802. 18/dcn/20/18 -20 -0105 -01 -0000 -introduction-to-fcc-20 -76 -a 1 modernizing-and-expanding-access-to-the-70 -80 -90 -ghz-bands. pptx • Federal Mobile includes aero and helicopters, • NTIA coordination might take six months for any link. • Coordination is complicated • FCC 05 -45 was the rule • Radiolocation – very open e. g. radio imaging from helicopters, some types like radar Agenda Slide 9 Jay Holcomb (Itron)

21 & 22 Jul 20 doc. : IEEE 802. 18 -20/0109 r 01 Modernizing and Expanding Access to the 70/80/90 GHz Bands (3 of 3) • • Could start with suggestion to start with 57 -71 GHz rules and move up. • Here is an initial draft to work from and edit. • https: //mentor. ieee. org/802. 18/dcn/20/18 -20 -0108 -00 -0000 -comments-ieee 802 -fcc-nprm-20133 -70 -80 -90 ghz-bands-expand-access. docx • Tuesday 21 July 20 we did a few edits and added more to the conclusion. • https: //mentor. ieee. org/802. 18/dcn/20/18 -20 -0108 -01 -0000 -comments-ieee 802 -fcc-nprm-20133 -70 -80 -90 ghz-bands-expand-access. docx • Wednesday 22 July 20 will review for any final cleanup and prepare the doc for full RR-TAG vote on Thursday 23 July 20. A more harmonized channel plan to extend the channelization above 71 GHz, e. g. for aircraft. • Nothing new was brought up, the rev 01 is good to take to RR-TAG meeting Thursday (23 Jul 20) and vote on. • The Chair will make a ‘clean’ r 02 to take to the RR-TAG • Agenda Slide 10 Jay Holcomb (Itron)
