Federal—Presidency • Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the president and vicepresident elect after Pennsylvania and Nevada were called on th Saturday November 7 • Trump has yet to concede despite clear victory for Biden • Undue stress on the nation • Lack of coordination on national security issues including the pandemic. • Most ballots ever cast for a presidential ticket with 79 million and counting for President Elect Biden • Historic ticket: oldest president; first woman VP; first Black VP; first Indian-American VP. • 440 thousand ballots left to be processed in CA as of 11/17 at 5: 00 p. m.
Federal—Presidency • Governor Gavin Newsom will have the opportunity to appoint a new Senator to the U. S. Senate to finish out Senator Harris’ term. Names floated include: • SF Mayor London Breed • Oakland Mayor Libby Schaff • Congresswoman Karen Bass (D- Los Angeles) • Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-Oakland) • Secretary of State Alex Padilla • Attorney General Xavier Becerra • Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has been floated for HUD or Secretary of Transportation • Other CA federal appointments possible
Federal—Senate • Democrats have picked up two seats (Arizona and Colorado) while losing one (Alabama) • Control of the Senate comes down to two runoffs in Georgia which will take place on January 5 th. If Democrats win both, they will hold 50 seats (with independents) with VP Harris as tie-breaker • Georgia Races: • Kelly Loeffler (R) v. Reverend Raphael Warnock (D) – Senate Special Election • David Perdue (R) v. Jon Ossoff (D) – Senate Regular Election
