College Application Week Background • Started in 2004 in North Carolina, later became the American College Application Campaign (ACAC) and expanded to all 50 states • Indiana has been participating in the national campaign since 2013
College Application Week Goals • To encourage and assist all students to apply to college, especially those who are low-income and / or first-generation • To provide dedicated time and support to students filling out applications • To provide information about the college-going process and all postsecondary options to all students • Note: College Application Week is meant to enhance and provide resources and support to all the work you are already doing with your students!
College Application Week Key Dates • Sept. 8 – 25: Live, virtual Events - Hosted by Learn More Indiana, 21 st Century Scholars and Indiana’s colleges and universities • Sept. 18: #Why. Apply Day - Post selfies/photos on social media of students, faculty and staff holding up reasons to apply to college • Sept. 21 – 25: College Application Week - Hold college exploration and application events all week 4
College Application Week Virtual Events • Will run from Sept. 8 – 25 • 3 Events hosted by Learn More Indiana & 21 st Century Scholars will take place during the evening – Sept. 9: Scholars Enrollment and Information Event – Sept. 16: College Research and Virtual Tour Information Event – Sept 23: College Application Tips Event • Many events hosted by Indiana’s Colleges and Universities – Will take place during the school day on various social media channels so schools / students can tune in to 1 -hour videos and hear from admissions counselors More info at Learn. Event Sign-Up Schools planning to host an event will sign up to be an official host site using an online form – Host an application event during the school day (doesn’t have to during College Application Week) and submit participation data to CHE – Event hosts will receive regular emails with resource updates and links to virtual events – Sign up here: surveygizmo. com/s 3/5762163/2020 -College. Hosting an Event Gather seniors in a computer lab or a space with computers OR create a Zoom or Google Meet room they can all join and have them: • Complete college applications • Log into Scholar. Track to complete activities (if Scholars) Visit Learn. More. Indiana. org/classroom-materials for an event handbook and other resources to get you started 9
Event Ideas Events can be as big or as small as you want! Some ideas include: • Hold a socially-distanced in person application event for students with school support staff assisting students • Hold a virtual event with students and invite support staff and alumni to assist students (virtually) in filling out applications • Tip: invite your outreach coordinator to attend your event!
