CHALLENGES AND LESSONS LEARNT • What have been the main challenges? How have these challenges been overcome? • The main challenge in the project was the delay in the start of the project, which resulted in project staff working hard to meet targets in less available time. The Department of Health had to ensure that communities where we will promote access to Pr. EP, local clinics have stock available for girls and young women to access it. As staff were working on weekdays and weekends to reach targets, the organisation ensured their wellbeing was prioritised through staff accessing retreat and wellness services. • What lessons have been learned? • Approvals from government take time, and ample time should be allocated for this exercise in project planning. • It is important to ensure product availability and accessibility for beneficiaries before you raise awareness about it. • How will the learning be applied? • Strengthening relationships with government- at all levels- is critical for the success of the project. After project evaluation, we are building and strengthening relations with various government officials- from local councillor to the national office, to ensure smooth implementation of the project. • We are increasing our visibility at municipal stakeholder forums to connect with more organisations working at community level. “Voice and Choice! Empower women, End Violence. ”

SUSTAINABILITY AND REPLICATION • How can the work be sustained/kept going? • CBOs that participated in the project need sustained support in developing relevant and appropriate SRHR programs targeting adolescents and youth. This can be done through building capacity of key staff working directly with adolescents and youth in the organisation. • Relationships with relevant municipal department are strengthened to sustain the work done thus far. • How can the work be cascaded to other organisations? • Sister. Love International South Africa aims to engage community stakeholder forums where a number of organisations convene to discuss and share their work. This is where we will reach more organisations who have not participated in this project yet. “Voice and Choice! Empower women, End Violence. ”

NEXT STEPS • Revisit organisations capacitated to assess progress and challenges. Main aim is to provide support needed in program development. • Strengthen relationships with relevant municipal departments so that CBOs are able to access support from local government • Map out stakeholder forums and engage secretariat of these forums to access CBOs to participate in i. STARSHIPP project. “Voice and Choice! Empower women, End Violence. ”
