Safety Training requirements for instructors (user training, instructor training, site-specific training, etc. ) Safety culture in the SAAH Collaboration with Studio Specialists General Safety Training requirements for all Everyone taking or instructing a studio course must complete the online SAAH General Safety Training. Compliance is required to participate in a studio course. Everyone should read the content module page, and then take the quiz. Remember to click on “submit” answers, and be certain to receive a score of 80% or greater. Individuals may take the quiz as many times as necessary to complete this requirement. All students MUST have completed the quiz with a score of 80% or greater prior to the 3 rd class. At that time, students may not return to the studio until the safety quiz is complete. The SAAH Safety and Facilities Coordinator (Ben Anzelc) will contact instructors if they have non-compliant students. Instructors will be responsible for follow-up and compliance. All individuals with an office or studio assigned to them in the SAAH will also be required to take the Visual Arts Building Tutorial W 00 VAB (training and quiz). The SAAH Facilities and Safety Coordinator (Ben Anzelc) will contact these individuals to provide information, and ensure compliance.

Campaign to Organize Graduate Students (COGS) COGS History COGS represents TA’s and RA’s with at least a 25% appointment. UE Local 896 / COGS (Campaign to Organize Graduate students) was certified in 1996 by a vote of 949 -667 (59 – 41 %) The very first agreement raised wages by 19% ($2, 000) The first comprehensive healthcare plan (UI Grad. Care) was won in the very first contract. Tuition scholarships were won in the 2002 -2003 school year. Overall wage increase negotiated since certification in 1996: 55+% Members pay dues to support the work of the union at $27. 39 / month, all graduate students with 25% TA or RA appointments benefit from the work of the union. Re-Certification Recertification is a new election process where all employees that are part of a bargaining unit (whether members of the union or not) must actually vote to retain the union as the certified bargaining representative for purposes of negotiating a legally binding union contract. The Iowa State legislature passed legislation in the Spring of 2017 which included a provision that requires public sector unions to face a recertification election prior to negotiating every new contract. The recertification election will take place October 15 -29, 2018. Voting will be open online and/or by telephone for approximately two weeks. Abstentions are counted as NO votes: at least 51% of the bargaining unit (over 2, 500 graduate students) must vote YES. Without the power to collectively bargain, you have no official say in the decisions made by the Board of Regents regarding your healthcare, wages, tuition scholarships, or working conditions. Speak with Mark Lanning if you have any questions, like UE Local 896/COGS on Facebook
Rave Guardian – Department of Public Safety http: //www. raveguardian. com/ The Rave Guardian Campus Safety app allows students to create safety profiles to alert friends and family when they are walking alone. It also features a safety timer to alert campus security when a student does not arrive at a planned destination within a certain amount of time. The app has a panic button that, when pressed, alerts campus security of where a student is. Call emergency officials for help if you are in trouble, and send text tips – including photos – if you see something suspicious.
