2018 ARTS GRANTS WORKSHOP
GDAC’S ARTS GRANTS PROGRAM The Greater Denton Arts Council has served the arts and artists of our community for 50 years. Since 1980, the Arts Council has provided over $1. 5 million in assistance to Denton’s non-profit arts organizations. The foundation of our program has always been Community Arts Grants, which have funded hundreds of projects over the years that serve the Denton community. Starting in 2016, our organization introduced Artist Microgrants, which are exclusively offered to individuals, collectives, or groups within the Denton arts community.
COMMUNITY ARTS GRANTS GUIDELINES • To apply for a COMMUNITY ARTS GRANT, be sure your organization is designated as a 501 (c) 3 non profit, a nonprofit educational institution, or unit of government • Applicants for COMMUNITY ARTS GRANTS must be organizational members of the Greater Denton Arts Council in good standing. WHO SHOULD APPLY FOR COMMUNITY ARTS GRANTS? • COMMUNITY ARTS GRANTS are designed for non-profit arts organizations serving Denton and Denton county that are seeking up to $5000 in additional funding for artsoriented projects • Organizations seeking funding for programs and projects that occur between July 1, 2018 and June 30, 2019 • First-time applicants are welcome! We strongly encourage new applicants to consult with Arts Council staff to ensure eligibility of the organization or project. To arrange a meeting, please contact admin@dentonarts. com • Projects that focus on cultural diversity and/or serve underserved populations are strongly encouraged
COMMUNITY ARTS GRANTS funding will NOT be awarded for the following • Maintenance or repair of facilities or capital improvements • Scholarships or tuition to institutions of higher education • Deficit reduction • Cash prizes or awards • Political or sectarian activities or organizations that prohibit accessibility
COMMUNITY ARTS GRANTS APPLICATION • This year, grant applications have been streamlined for applicant’s convenience and ease. • Applicants are strongly encouraged to download and review the Arts Grants Program Guidelines and Grant Application in advance to identify any questions • Completed grant applications and supporting materials must be emailed to members@dentonarts. com or delivered to the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center by March 31, 2018 at 5 PM • Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Early submissions are strongly encouraged
YOU WILL BE ASKED TO PROVIDE • Organizational history, mission statement, and a brief summary of the services and programs you provide • An explanation of how the project will benefit the Denton community • Estimated attendance and how you plan on documenting and evaluating participation • Attachments including IRS letter of determination, most recent year-end financial statements, list of your current board leadership, and brief bios of artists/ creative directors involved the project
PROJECT BUDGET • Be prepared to list in detail all expenses and income of the proposed project. This will include a break down of the intended use of grants funding as well as your organization’s funds for the program/project • As with all aspects of the application, the more details, the better. Our committee consistently fund projects with welldeveloped proposals.
COMMUNITY ARTS GRANT APPLICANTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO • Participate in a brief interview with the Grants Review Committee at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center. Applicants will be contacted by GDAC staff to arrange a time for interviews. • Complete a program evaluation form and summary report 30 days after the completion of the project (no later than June 30, 2019) • Maintain financial records for the funded project for at least 3 years after project completion and must be able to provide financial statements if requested by GDAC • Use all acquired funds exclusively for the project originally proposed in the grant application and return any unused

ARTIST MICROGRANT GUIDELINES • To apply for an ARTIST MICROGRANT, applicants must be 18 years old or older and be a resident of Denton County • Applicants for ARTIST MICROGRANTS must be a member of the Greater Denton Arts Council in good standing. WHO SHOULD APPLY FOR ARTIST MICROGRANTS? • ARTIST MICROGRANTS are designed for artists working in any media, including musical and performing arts, that are seeking up to $500 in funding for arts-oriented projects • Artists creating art oriented projects occurring in Denton or Denton County • Artists or collectives seeking assistance with expenses associated with artistic practice, including but not limited to studio rental, production costs, exhibition related expenses or supplies, or other materials needed to complete an arts project. • Artists seeking funding for projects that occur between July 1, 2018 and June 30, 2019
ARTIST MICROGRANT funding will NOT be awarded for the following • Fundraising initiatives or for-profit events • Medical expenses or deficit reduction • Capital improvements and brick and mortar improvements • Political or sectarian activities or for organizations that prohibit accessibility • Scholarships or tuition to institutions of higher education

YOU WILL BE ASKED TO PROVIDE • Artist bio and information about yourself or collective • An explanation of the project and how it will benefit your artistic career and others in the Denton community • Attachments including samples of past artistic work such as images of artworks, samples of writing, literary, or theatrical projects or links to audio files or video. • A physical copy (disc or jump drive) of work or a link to work online are both acceptable. If you include a link to website, make sure the link is working properly.

GRANTS REVIEW PROCESS
HOW ARE GRANTS REVIEWED? The Grants Review Committee, consisting of community representatives at large, will evaluate and review all applications. Funding recommendations will be made to the GDAC Board based on the following criteria: • Artistic quality • Goals & results of the proposed project • Community impact • Accuracy and completeness of application
PAYMENT OF MONIES • All grant recipients will be notified of acceptance/denial by Friday, May 25, 2018. Contracts will be sent out the following week. • Successful grant applicants will be honored with a grantee awards celebration at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center on Friday, June 1 at 6 PM • Grant checks will be distributed starting June 30, 2018 via mail or can be picked up at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center if requested in advance
EVALUTATION & FINAL REPORTS • Evaluations and summary reports are required to be completed 30 days after the funded project, no later than June 30, 2019. • Summary reports must include receipts accounting for all expenditures made with GDAC funding • Organizations or artists who do not submit a complete evaluation will be ineligible to receive funding in the following grant year cycle.
