Standard Diploma Graduation Options A four-year, minimum of 24 -credits standard program, or n 18 credit ACCEL (see School Counselor for more information) Standard 24 Credit Graduation Requirements n English – 4 credits n Math – 4 credits (to include Algebra I and Geometry) n Science – 3 credits (to include Biology) n Social Studies – 3 credits ( World History, US History, Economics with Financial Literacy and US Government) n Health Opportunities in Physical Education (HOPE)– 1 credit n Fine Art or DOE Approved Practical Art – 1 credit n Electives – as needed for a total of 24 credits (8 credits) n Earn a 2. 0 Unwtd. Grading Scale Grade A B C D F Grading System Percent 90 -100 80 -89 70 -79 60 -69 0 -59 Earning Credit We are on a two semester system: All courses earn 0. 50 credit upon successful completion of each semester. Average of the First nine week grade (40%), Second nine week grade (40%) and *Midterm Exam (20%) equal the first semester grade (which goes on the transcript). Average of the Third nine week grade(40%), Fourth nine week grade (40%) and *Final exam (20%) equal the second semester grade (which goes on the transcript) *Classes that have a State EOC (Algebra I, Geometry, Biology, and US History) will not take a mid term or final exam and the EOC will count 30% of final grade. * 9 th grade English Classes will take a midterm, but not a final exam. The 3 rd and 4 th nine weeks grades will be averaged to determine the 2 nd semester grade (FSA/ELA taken instead- but no grade impact). Per grading period – you must earn a passing grade during the final grading period and/or exam to earn credit for the semester.

Employers and College Admissions often look at your social media profile and posts. v No place for bullying. Student Affairs Office takes these threats very seriously and the consequences may be suspension or more. v Use Social Media wisely and follow college admissions, Chiles activities, etc. v Be the Sunshine- A kind word to someone in need is invaluable.

State/Community College n Admission based on Regular high school diploma n State of Florida/community colleges recommend that students take the same core high school courses that are required for state university admission n Students who take college prep courses in high school are more likely to be successful. n A student with an AA degree is guaranteed admission to a state university (not necessarily university or program of your choice unless enrolled in golden guarantee program), acceptance of 60 credit hours towards BA/BS degree and junior standing. n Placement tests are highly encouraged. The PERT will be used unless exempted by SAT or ACT scores. It is generally recommended for students to take the SAT and/or ACT in the spring of their junior year. NCAA Requirements n n n Required for any student athlete who wants to play at a Division I or II college. Clearinghouse application should be completed by end of junior year. Requirements: 3. 0 weighted* GPA (16 required academic credits) , 1170 SAT (Reading and Math) or 26 ACT (composite)and 75 hours of community service. 16 required academic credits include: 4 English 4 Math - Algebra I and higher. 3 Science 3 Social Science 2 World Languages (in the same language)
n Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars Award - Pro-rated per hour tuition coverage for a vocational/technical program at a FL post secondary institution. Community Service Guidelines n n § Activities must be rendered for not-for-profit organizations or agencies. Directly address identified social problems in areas such as health, education, environment, or public safety. Activities must be unpaid and cannot be work done for an immediate family member. New- May use hours spent helping with a political campaign or a business externship that is unpaid. Action Plan For Freshmen: n n Set academic and personal goals to accomplish this year and formulate a plan for 10 th grade. Plan to take a strong curriculum but maintain a balance. Get involved in activities at school/community. Keep a folder with activities, awards, etc. n Perform community service and volunteerism. Maintain records of service. n Start researching scholarship opportunities. A few underclassmen opportunities are available in the guidance office. Often Essay contests, poster contests, etc. List is available on our web site. Take a career inventory to help identify strengths and weaknesses and to research possible majors and careers in these areas. Recommend My Career Shines Assessments and College. Board’s Big. Future/You. Can. Go! n n Take the PSAT as a 10 th grader and as an 11 th grader for last SAT preparation and National Merit Scholarship Program consideration. n ELA for graduation in spring of sophomore year. n SAT/ACT in spring of junior year.
